This sponge dosa can be prepared in just 10 minutes. This instant dosa or quick sponge dosa is prepared using rava, beaten rice (avalakki) and curd (mosaru). This is a very useful recipe and no-fermentation required.

You can use well-seasoned cast Iron pan or non-stick pan for this recipe. Use the same pan, which you generally used for making urad dal dosa.

Instant set dosa recipe

Preparation time: 15 min
Cooking time: 10 min
Serves: 3

Ingredients: (measuring cup used = 240ml)

  1. 1 cup medium rava (upma rava)
  2. 1/2 cup thick or 3/4 cup thin avalakki or poha
  3. 1/2 cup curd
  4. Around 1.25 cup water
  5. 1/2 tsp cooking soda
  6. Oil for making dose
  7. 1 tsp salt (or as per your taste)

Instructions for making instant set dosa:

  1. Take beaten rice (avalakki or poha) in a container and rinse.beaten rice for instant set dosa or rava sponge dosa
  2. Add in rava. You can use either medium or fine rava.rava for instant set dosa or rava sponge dosa
  3. Followed by add in 1 cup of water.water for instant set dosa or rava sponge dosa
  4. Also add in curd.curd for instant set dosa or rava sponge dosa
  5. Give a good mix. Rest it for 10 minutes. If you have used thin poha or avalakki then resting for 5 minutes would be enough.soak rava and poha for instant set dosa or rava sponge dosa
  6. After resting transfer it into a mixie jar and grind it until fine batter.grinding for instant set dosa or rava sponge dosa
  7. Transfer it into the same container.batter for instant set dosa or rava sponge dosa
  8. Add in salt and cooking soda. Give a quick mix. Prepare dosa batter having regular dosa batter consistency by adding required water.salt and soda for instant set dosa or rava sponge dosa
  9. Now heat the cast iron pan (well seasoned) or non-stick pan. Pour a laddle full of batter and slightly spread it.making instant set dosa or rava sponge dosa
  10. Close the lid and allow it to cook for 10 seconds. cooking instant set dosa or rava sponge dosa
  11. Open the lid. Optionally you can drizzle oil or ghee.oil or ghee for instant set dosa or rava sponge dosa
  12. Flip and cook on the other side as well. Please note, cooking on the other side is optional. Take it out and serve it with coconut chutney or sambar or sagu.cooking instant set dosa or rava sponge dosa on iron pan
