Coconut chutney recipe explained with step by step pictures and a video. Coconut chutney or kayi chutney is served with all kind of dosas and idlies. There are so many varieties of coconut chutneys. You can find many chutney recipes on this website. Here is a simple coconut chutney recipe.

This is a plain coconut chutney recipe prepared using fresh grated coconut, green chili, ginger, little coriander leaves, tamarind and salt. Coconut is the main ingredient in this recipe. The other ingredients are used in very small quantity as compared to coconut.

You can serve this coconut chutney along with dosa or idli. You can also serve this chutney with any ricebath.

Coconut chutney recipe

Preparation time: 10 min
Cooking time: 1 min
Serves: 2

Ingredients: (measuring cup used = 240ml)

  1. 1 cup fresh grated coconut
  2. A small piece of ginger (optional)
  3. little tamarind
  4. 1-3 green chili
  5. little coriander leaves (optional)
  6. Salt as per your taste

Ingredients for tempering:

  1. 1/4 tsp mustard seeds
  2. 1 tsp cooking oil
  3. 1 red chili
  4. 4 curry leaves
  5. A pinch of asafoetida

Instructions for making coconut chutney:

  1. Transfer the fresh grated coconut into a mixie jar.fresh grated coconut for coconut chutney
  2. Add in required water and grind the coconut until fine paste.grinding coconut for coconut chutney
  3. Now add in green chili, tamarind, coriander leaves and ginger. Please note that the tamarind, ginger and coriander leaves quantity should be very less.green chili and tamarind for coconut chutney
  4. Grind it for few seconds or coarse grind it.ground coconut chutney
  5. Transfer the ground chutney into a bowl.ground coconut chutney
  6. Temper it with oil, mustard, red chili, asafoetida and curry leaves. Serve it with dosa or chutney.tempering the coconut chutney
