Today I have a tasty, healthy and quick garlic chutney recipe with step by step pictures. In this chutney fried garlic, fried red chili and fresh grated coconut are used. This goes very well with dosa but you can also have it with either idli or rice. As you all know garlic has various health benefits and this garlic chutney is one of the easy and tasty way to eat garlic.

Garlic chutney

Preparation time: 5 min
Cooking time: 10 min
Serves: 3

Ingredients: (measuring cup used = 120ml)

  1. 1 medium sized garlic
  2. 2-4 red chili
  3. 1 cup grated coconut
  4. 1 marble sized tamarind
  5. 1 tsp cooking oil
  6. Salt as per your taste.

Ingredients for tempering:

  1. 1 red chili
  2. 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
  3. 1 tsp cooking oil

Instructions for making garlic chutney:

  1. Peel the garlic and cut it into pieces. Take a frying pan, add 1 tsp oil and fry red chili. Once chilis are fried, take it out and keep it aside. In the same frying pan fry garlic pieces till they are slightly brown.frying garlic for garlic chutney
  2. Take a mixie jar, add in fried garlic, red chili, salt, tamarind, grated coconut and grind it into a smooth paste. Transfer it to a bowl. Temper it with oil, red chili and mustard seeds. Serve it with dosa or idli or rice.grinding garlic chutney
