Sun dried potato chips or sun dried aloo chips recipe explained with step by step pictures and a video. Sun dried potato chips or aloo chips is prepared using raw potato, red chili powder, salt and asafoetida. Sun dried potato chips or alu chips is very easy to prepare and is very tasty. Sun dried potato chips is a very crispy aloo chips recipe.

My son loves potato chips. And I keep preparing crispy potato chips at home in small batches. I prepare these sun dried chips as well as regular potato chips often. I also prepare banana chips for him. He enjoys all types of home made chips.

This potato chips is with spicy red masala. If you want plain salted chips then simply sprinkle the salt, do not use red chili powder and asafoetida. I have posted one more raw jackfruit chips recipe on this website, which uses the same masala.

Sun dried potato chips recipe

Preparation time: 1 - 2 days
Cooking time: 10 min
Serves: 4

Ingredients: (measuring cup used = 240ml)

  1. 2 big raw potatoes
  2. 2 tsp red chili powder (adjust as per your spice level)
  3. 2 tsp salt (or as per your taste)
  4. 1/2 tsp black salt (optional; but recommended)
  5. 1/4 tsp asafoetida
  6. Oil to deep fry

Instructions for making sun dried potato chips:

  1. Take fresh raw potatoes or alugadde. And peel them.peeling potato for sun dried potato chips or aloo chips
  2. After peeling immerse them in the water to avoid discoloration. I just rinsed them under running water as I used only two potatoes.rinsing potatoes for sun dried potato chips or aloo chips

  4. After slicing 2 - 3 potatoes, put the sliced potatoes in the water having normal room temperature.sliced potatoes for sun dried potato chips or aloo chips
  5. Rinse them very well until you observe clear water. Doing so will remove the extra starch from the potatoes.rinse potatoes for sun dried potato chips or aloo chips
  6. Meanwhile take some water and little salt in a wide pan. Keep it for boiling.salt water for sun dried potato chips or aloo chips

  8. Add in the rinsed potato slices and blanch them for 2 - 3 minutes. Or allow them to cook for 2 - 3 minutes under medium flame.blanching potato slices for sun dried potato chips or aloo chips
  9. Once done, switch off the stove and drain the water completely.drain the water for sun dried potato chips or aloo chips
  10. Next spread them on a clean cotton cloth and keep it for sun drying. Make sure that the potato slices are nor overlapped.drying potato slices for sun dried potato chips or aloo chips
  11. After around half day, I transferred them into a plate. But you can continue drying them on the cloth as well.drying potato slices for sun dried potato chips or aloo chips

  13. I kept them out for drying on the second day as well. Sun dry them until crispy. You can either fry them or store them in a container and fry them as and when required.sun dried potato slices for sun dried potato chips or aloo chips
  14. Now either deep fry them or bake them to prepare crispy potato chips. For that heat oil in a deep frying pan and fry the sun dried potato slices. You need to be very quick, or otherwise you will end up in burning them.frying potato for sun dried potato chips or aloo chips
  15. Finish frying few batches of chips. Also in a bowl take all powders like red chili, salt, black salt and asafoetida. Mix them well.fried potato slices for sun dried potato chips or aloo chips
  16. Next sprinkle the masala powder and toss them well. You can change the masala powder as per your taste. Serve the crispy potato chips and enjoy.masala powder for sun dried potato chips or aloo chips
