Sabudana halwa or sabbakki halwa recipe explained with step by step pictures and a video. Sabudana halwa or sabbakki halwa is very easy to prepare and is very tasty. Sabbakki halwa or sabudana halwa is a very tasty halwa prepared using sago pearls, sugar, ghee, cashew and raisins.

Sabbakki or sago halwa can be prepared using very minimum ingredients. You need to use khova in this recipe. But I have replaced it with 2 tbsp milk + 2 tbsp milk powder. However adding khova is completely optional and you can skip it. Sabudana halwa is familiar by different names like javvarisi halwa, saggubiyyam halwa, seeme akki halwa etc.,

Sabbakki halwa recipe

Preparation time: 5 min
Cooking time: 30 min
Serves: 4

Ingredients: (measuring cup used = 240ml)

  1. 1/2 cup sabbakki or sabudana
  2. 1/2 cup sugar
  3. 2 - 3 tbsp ghee
  4. Small pinch of food colour or turmeric
  5. 2 tbsp cashews
  6. 1 tbsp raisins
  7. 2 tbsp khova or (2 tbsp milk + 2 tbsp milk powder)
  8. 1 cup water

Instructions for making sabudana halwa:

  1. Take sabbakki or sabudana in a container or pressure cooker.sago pearls for sabudana halwa or sabbakki halwa
  2. Rinse it. Add 1 cup of water and cook the sabudana by making 2 whistles. You can cook it using open pot method as well.cooking sago pearls for sabudana halwa or sabbakki halwa
  3. Mean while, in a skillet heat 1 tsp ghee and roast cashews and raisins. Once done, keep them aside for later use..cashews and raisins for sabudana halwa or sabbakki halwa
  4. If you don't have khova, in the same skillet heat 2 tbsp milk and switch off the stove. Mix in 2 tbsp of milk powder and keep it aside for later use..milk and milk powder for sabudana halwa or sabbakki halwa
  5. Once the sago or sabudana is cooked transfer it into a pan. If sago are not cooked add some water and cook them until done.cooked sago pearls for sabudana halwa or sabbakki halwa
  6. Next add in sugar and give a quick mix under medium flame..sugar for sabudana halwa or sabbakki halwa
  7. Followed by add in food colour (optional) and 1 tbsp of ghee. Keep stirring for 1 - 2 minutes under medium flame.ghee for sabudana halwa or sabbakki halwa
  8. Add in khova or the milk (milk + milk powder) mixture. Continue stirring under medium flame.khova for sabudana halwa or sabbakki halwa
  9. Add in 1 - 2 tbsp of ghee and continue stirring under medium flame.ghee for sabudana halwa or sabbakki halwa
  10. At the end add in roasted cashews and raisins. Continue stirring under medium flame.cashews and raisins for sabudana halwa or sabbakki halwa
  11. When the halwa reaches thick paste consistency, switch off the stove. It will turn thick once it is cool. Serve and enjoy!.making sabudana halwa or sabbakki halwa
