Carrot holige or carrot obbattu recipe explained with step by step pictures and a video. This carrot holige or carrot obbattu or carrot poli is prepared using wheat flour. And the carrot stuffing is prepared using grated carrot, coconut and jaggery. Preparing carrot holige or carrot obbattu using wheat flour is very easy adn healthy.

The authentic kayi holige or obbattu and bele holige or bele obbattu is prepared using maida flour. But using wheat flour is a healthy alternate. My son loves this and I keep preparing this often. It is just like preparing stuffed paratha or we can call this as sweet paratha.

Wheat flour carrot holige recipe

Preparation time: 30 min
Cooking time: 20 min
Serves: 5 no

Ingredients for kanaka (outer cover): (measuring cup used = 240ml)

  1. 1 cup wheat flour
  2. 3 tbsp cooking oil
  3. 2 tsp ghee (used while cooking)
  4. Salt as per your taste

Ingredients for hoorana (stuffing): (measuring cup used = 240ml)

  1. 1 cup grated carrot
  2. 1/4 cup grated cocont
  3. 1/2 cup powdered jaggery
  4. 1 cardamom

Instructions for making carrot holige or carrot obbattu using wheat flour:

  1. To begin with let us prepare kanaka (dough for the outer cover). Take 1 cup of wheat flour and salt in a wide bowl. Give a quick mix.wheat flour for wheat flour carrot holige or carrot obbattu
  2. Next add in water little by little and prepare a soft dough (little softer than chapathi dough).dough for wheat flour carrot holige or carrot obbattu
  3. Pour oil over the dough.oil for wheat flour carrot holige or carrot obbattu
  4. Give a quick knead and rest it for 30 minutes.dough for wheat flour carrot holige or carrot obbattu
  5. Meantime let us prepare hoorana or stuffing. In a pan, heat 1 tsp of ghee.coconut for wheat flour carrot holige or carrot obbattu
  6. Add in a cup of fine grated carrot and 1/4 cup fine grated coconut. If they are not fine, grind it for a while and then use.coconut for wheat flour carrot holige or carrot obbattu
  7. Add in a 1/2 cup jaggery and cardamom.jaggery for wheat flour carrot holige or carrot obbattu
  8. Stir the hoorana or stuffing (carrot, coconut and jaggery mixture) under low-medium flame until excess water content has dried. Switch off the stove. Wait until warm, make lemon sized balls and keep it aside.coconut and jaggery for wheat flour carrot holige or carrot obbattu
  9. Next dust your fingers take a lemon sized dough. Flatten it and place hoorana (stuffing ball) inside.stuffing for wheat flour carrot holige or carrot obbattu
  10. Slowly push the hoorana or stuffing inside and cover it evenly with the dough.stuffed dough for wheat flour carrot holige or carrot obbattu
  11. Apply the flour and roll it into a thin holige or obbattu. Both kanaka and hoorana consistency should be same to prepare perfect holige.rolled wheat flour carrot holige or carrot obbattu
  12. Heat a pan or tawa and transfer the rolled holige or obbattu on to the tawa carefully. Cook under high flame. Wait until you see bubbles here and there. Apply little ghee on both the sides.cooking wheat flour carrot holige or carrot obbattu
