Pumpkin dosa or sihi kumbalakai dose recipe explained with step by step pictures and video. Cheenikai dose or sihigumbala dosa is prepared using rice, coconut, red chilli, ginger, curry leaves and chopped pumpkin. This is a very easy, healthy and comforting dosa recipe. Pumpkin dosa is familiar by different names like cheenikai dose, sihi kumbalakayi dosa and sihigumbala dosa, kaddu dosa, mathanga dosa, poosanikai dosa. Cheenikai dose oe pumpkin dosa can be served with plain coconut chutney or can be eaten as it is.

Pumpkin dosa is a very tasty and instant dosa recipe. No need to ferment the batter. Just soak the rice, grind and prepare the dosa. It is always good to include vegetables in our diet to keep up the good health. Not only health benefits...this dosa tastes too good. You can prepare this for breakfast or as an evening snacks.

Pumpkin dosa recipe

Preparation time: 3 hours
Cooking time: 20 min
Serves: 3

Ingredients: (measuring cup used = 240ml)

  1. 1 cup dosa rice (or any raw rice)
  2. 1 cup chopped pumpkin or sihikumbalakai
  3. 1/2 cup grated coconut
  4. Small piece ginger
  5. 2 - 3 red chillies
  6. Few curry leaves
  7. Ghee or oil for cooking
  8. Salt as per your taste

Instructions for making sihigumbalakai dose:

  1. Soak the rice for 2 - 3 hours.soaking rice for cheenikai dose or pumpkin dosa
  2. After soaking, drain the water and transfer the soaked rice into a mixie jar. Add in required water and grind it into a fine batter.soaked rice and dal for cheenikai dose or pumpkin dosa
  3. Transfer it into a container.batter for cheenikai dose or pumpkin dosa
  4. Next take chopped pumpkin in the same jar. Please note, I have peeled and chopped the pumpkin.chopped pumpkin for cheenikai dose or pumpkin dosa
  5. Add in grated coconut and a small piece of ginger.chopped pumpkin for cheenikai dose or pumpkin dosa
  6. Also add in red chillies and curry leaves.chopped pumpkin for cheenikai dose or pumpkin dosa
  7. Grind until fine by adding minimum required water. Transfer it into the same container.batter for cheenikai dose or pumpkin dosa
  8. Add in salt.batter for cheenikai dose or pumpkin dosa
  9. Mix the batter well. The batter shall have regular urad dosa batter consistency.fermenting for cheenikai dose or pumpkin dosa
  10. Now heat the dosa pan. Pour a laddle full of batter and spread it thin in a circular way.making cheenikai dose or pumpkin dosa
  11. Close the lid for 5 - 10 seconds. Allow it to cook under medium flame.cooking cheenikai dose or pumpkin dosa
  12. Open the lid and drizzle some ghee. Allow it to cook for few seconds under low flame. This makes the dosa more crispy.cooked cheenikai dose or pumpkin dosa
  13. Fold the dosa and take it out. Serve it with any chutney of your choice. You can have this dosa as it is.cooked cheenikai dose or pumpkin dosa
