Rave modaka or rava modak recipe explained with step by step pictures and a video. Rave modaka or rave kadubu is prepared using fine rava, milk, jaggery and coconut. Rave modaka is a very easy and tasty modak or kadubu recipe. It is a no-steaming modaka and is prepared during ganesha festival.

I have stuffed the hoorana and prepared the modaka using hands. You can do the same using modaka or karjikai mould. Also here in this recipe, since the rava is cooked, there is no need to steam the modaka. However if you wish you can steam it for 5 minutes.

Through out Karnataka varities of sweets and dishes are prepared to celebrate Ganesha chathurthi, a Hindu festival. Chakkuli, kayi kadubu, kari kadubu, modaka, panchakajjaya, varieties of laddus, usli..like this the list goes on.

Rave modaka recipe

Preparation time: 20 min
Cooking time: 20 min
Serves: 11 no

Ingredients: (measuring cup used = 240ml)

  1. 1/2 cup fine rava or chiroti rave
  2. 1/2 cup water
  3. 1/2 cup milk
  4. 1/2 cup grated coconut
  5. 1/4 cup powdered jaggery
  6. 1 tsp ghee
  7. 2 cardamom
  8. 1/2 tsp salt (or as per your taste)

Instructions for making rave modaka:

  1. Take water and milk in a container and keep it for boiling.water and milk for rave modaka or rava modak
  2. Add in 1/2 tsp ghee and salt.ghee and salt for rave modaka or rava modak
  3. When it starts boiling add in rava all at once.rava for rave modaka or rava modak
  4. Mix well for 2 - 3 minutes under low flame until rava is cooked and thick. Switch off the stove. Set it aside.dough for rave modaka or rava modak
  5. Next take grated coconut, powdered jaggery and cardamom in a pan. Start stirring under low flame.coconut and jaggery for rave modaka or rava modak
  6. Stir well for few minutes. Initially it will leave out the water.hoorana or stuffing for rave modaka or rava modak
  7. When the excess water has dried, switch off the stove. Do not make it fully dry because after cooling it will become hard. Hoorana or stuffing is ready. Keep it aside.hoorana or stuffing for rave modaka or rava modak
  8. Now grease your fingers with ghee and knead the rava dough well.kneading dough for rave modaka or rava modak
  9. Pinch and take a lemon sized dough and make it flat.kneaded dough for rave modaka or rava modak
  10. Place 1 tsp of hoorana or stuffing in the middle.making rave modaka or rava modak
  11. Bring the edges together and seal it. Give it a modaka shape.making rave modaka or rava modak
  12. Like this finish making all the modakas. No need to steam this modaka, however if you wish you can steam it for 5 minutes.rave modaka or rava modak
