No coconut chutney or hurigadale chutney recipe explained with step by step pictures and a video. Roasted gram (hurigadale or putani or kadlepappu), red chilli and garlic are the 3 main ingredients in this no coconut chutney recipe. You can serve this no-coconut or hurigadale chutney with dosa or idli. I have also posted hotel style idli-sambar recipe and simple white coconut chutney, which is also served in some of the hotels.

No coconut chutney recipe

Preparation time: 5 min
Cooking time: 2 min
Serves: 4

Ingredients: (measuring cup used = 240ml)

  1. 1/2 cup roasted gram or hurigadale or kadle pappu
  2. 1 - 2 red chillies or green chillies
  3. 3 - 4 cloves of garlic (or big pinch asafoetida)
  4. Little jaggery (optional)
  5. little tamarind
  6. Salt as per your taste

Ingredients for tempering:

  1. 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
  2. 1/2 tsp urad dal
  3. 1 red chilli
  4. 1 tsp cooking oil
  5. 4 curry leaves

Instructions for making no coconut chutney:

  1. Take roasted gram or hurigadale in a mixie jar.roasted gram for no coconut chutney or hurigadale chutney
  2. Add in red chillies as per your spice level. You can replace red chillies with green chillies as well.ingredients for no coconut chutney or hurigadale chutney
  3. Add in garlic. If you don't like garlic replace it with a big pinch of asafoetida.garlic for no coconut chutney or hurigadale chutney
  4. Grind everything together into a coarse powder. Add in salt as per your tastesalt for no coconut chutney or hurigadale chutney
  5. Also add in very little jaggery and little tamarind. Please note, jaggery is optional.jaggery and tamarind for no coconut chutney or hurigadale chutney
  6. Add in required water and grind it into a fine paste. Transfer it into a serving bowl.grinding no coconut chutney or hurigadale chutney
  7. Temper it with oil, mustard seeds, urad dal, red chilli and curry leaves.tempering no coconut chutney or hurigadale chutney
  8. Serve it with idli or dosa. I had served it with neer dosa.no coconut chutney or hurigadale chutney for idli or dosa
