Karnataka style khara and sweet pongal recipe with step by step pictures and a video. "Khara" translates to "spicy" in kannada language. In Karnataka, khara pongal is a popular breakfast item, which is a bit different from the Tamilnadu style pongal. And this Karnataka style khara pongal is known as "huggi anna". Karnataka style khara pongal is prepared using spices so that it does not require any accompaniment to eat. Also in karnataka style khara pongal, equal proportions of rice and mung daal are used, where as in regular pongal mung daal proportion will be less.
Sweet pongal recipe is almost similar to the regular sweet pongal except the addition of grated coconut. You can also add little milk but its optional and I dont add it. In some places of karnataka these khara and sweet pongal are called by name "huggi" or "huggi anna". Here I have explained both sweet and khara pongal recipes. If you want to try a healthy pongal then do check my navane (siridhanya) pongal recipe.
