Instant upma mix or uppittu ready mix recipe explained with step by step pictures and a quick video. This is a no-onion uppittu or upma mix recipe. With this instant mix you can prepare upma or uppittu in just 5 minutes. Preparing instant upma mix or uppittu ready mix is very easy.

Instant upma or uppittu mix recipe

Preparation time: 10 min
Cooking time: 15 min
Serves: 2

Ingredients: (measuring cup used = 240ml)

  1. 1/2 cup medium rava / sooji / semolina
  2. 1/4 tsp mustard seeds
  3. 1/2 tsp urad dal
  4. 1/2 tsp bengal gram dal or chana dal
  5. Few cashews
  6. A big pinch asafoetida or hing
  7. 1-2 green chili
  8. 5-6 curry leaves
  9. 1 tsp finely chopped ginger
  10. 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
  11. 2 tbsp cooking oil
  12. 1/2 tsp sugar (optional; recommended)
  13. Salt as per your taste

Ingredients for making upma: (measuring cup used = 240ml)

  1. 1.25 cup water
  2. 1 tbsp chopped coriander leaves
  3. 2 tbsp fresh grated coconut

Instructions for making instant upma mix:

  1. Heat a pan. Take 1/2 cup of rava and dry roast until you get nice aroma or rava turns whitish.. Remove and keep it aside.
  2. Next in the same pan prepare tempering using oil, mustard seeds, urad dal and chana dal.tempering for uppittu or upuma
  3. When the mustard seed splutters add in cashews, asafoetida and turmeric powde. Give a quick mix.green chili and ginger for uppittu or upuma
  4. Followed by add in slit green chilies, curry leaves and chopped ginger. Saute for a while.green chili and ginger for uppittu or upuma
  5. Add in 1/2 cup of roasted rava from step 1 and fry for few minutes under medium flame. rava for upuma or uppittu
  6. Reduce the flame. Add in salt and sugar. Give a quick mix and switch off the stove.fried rava for upuma or uppittu
  7. Store it in a container and use it when required.curry leaves for gatti avalakki oggarane
  8. Now to prepare upma or uppittu, boil 1.25 (2.5 times) cup of water in a wide pan.curry leaves for gatti avalakki oggarane
  9. When the water starts boiling, add in instant upma mix and start stirring continuously.making gatti avalakki oggarane
  10. When it becomes thick, reduce the flame. Top it with fresh grated coconut and coriander leaves. Switch off the stove.making gatti avalakki oggarane
