Cabbage dosa or cabbage dose or elekosu dose recipe explained with step by step pictures and a video. This is a very tasty and healthy breakfast recipe. Cabbage dose or cabbage dosa is an instant dosa prepared using cabbage, onion, rice, red chili, coconut, coriander, cumin, jaggery and tamarind.

It is also a very good source of manganese, dietary fiber, potassium, vitamin B1, folate and copper. It is good for the brain and is useful in the treatment of neural disorders. It keeps the skin, eyes, and hair healthy. So I add cabbage in vegetable pulav and masale vade recipes as well.

Cabbage dose recipe

Preparation time: 5 hrs
Cooking time: 30 min
Serves: 3

Ingredients: (measuring cup used = 240ml)

  1. 1 cup dosa rice
  2. 1 - 1.5 cup grated cabbage or elekosu
  3. 1 medium sized onion
  4. 2 tbsp chopped curry leaves (optional)
  5. 1/4 - 1/2 cup grated coconut
  6. 1 tsp coriander seeds
  7. 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
  8. 2 - 3 red chilies
  9. A small marble sized tamarind
  10. 1 tsp jaggery (optional)
  11. Salt as per your taste
  12. 4 tsp cooking oil or ghee.

Instructions for making cabbage dose:

  1. To make cabbage dosa first wash and soak the rice in water for at least 4-5 hours.soak the rice for cabbage dosa or cabbage dose
  2. After soaking, drain the water and transfer the rice into a mixie jar. Next add in red chili, grated coconut, coriander seeds, cumin seeds, jaggery and tamarind. Use required water and grind until smooth. grind the rice for cabbage dosa or cabbage dose
  3. Transfer it to a container. Add in required water. The batter shall be of milkshake consistency.watery batter for cabbage dosa or cabbage dose
  4. Grate or finely chop the cabbage. Finely chopping is very important for proper cooking.finely chopped cabbage for cabbage dosa or cabbage dose
  5. Add this cabbage into the batter.chopped cabbage for cabbage dosa or cabbage dose
  6. Also add in finely chopped onion and curry leaves. Please note I have not used curry leaves.chopped onion for cabbage dosa or cabbage dose
  7. Give a quick mix. And please note the batter should be much thinner than urad dal dosa batter.chopped onion for cabbage dosa or cabbage dose
  8. Heat the pan. Pour a laddle full of batter. Slightly spread it and prepare dosa. I have made small sized dosas.smear oil for making cabbage dosa or cabbage dose
  9. Close the lid and allow it to cook under medium flame. Open the lid, drizzle some oil or ghee.making cabbage dosa or cabbage dose
  10. Flip the dosa using the flat spatula. Cook on the other side as well. Serve it hot with butter and coconut chutney.making cabbage dosa or cabbage dose
