Rava uttapam or uttappa is prepared using rava or semolina, curd, lot of onion, roasted peanuts, coriander leaves, curry leaves and green chili.

This is a very easy, quick and very very tasty recipe. Addition of roasted peanuts and lot of onion gives an unique taste to this uttappam or uthappa. Instant idlies are easy and quick. But I feel, taste wise the traditional soft idli prepared using urad dal is ultimate.

Rava uttapam recipe

Preparation time: 20 min
Cooking time: 15 min
Serves: 2

Ingredients: (measuring cup used = 240ml)

  1. 1 cup medium rava or semolina
  2. 1/2 cup curd or plain yoghurt
  3. 2 onions
  4. 4 tbsp peanuts or shenga or kadlekai
  5. 1 tbsp finely chopped coriander leaves
  6. 1 tsp finely chopped curry leaves
  7. 1 green chili finely chopped
  8. Salt to taste
  9. 5 - 6 tsp cooking oil

Instructions for making rava uttapam or rave uthappa:

  1. Take a cup of medium semolina or upma rava in a container.rava or semolina for rava uttapam or instant rave uthappa
  2. Add in 1/2 cup of thick curd and give a quick mix. You can also use thick buttermilk.curd for rava uttapam or instant rave uthappa
  3. Next add in required water and prepare a thick batter having thick dosa batter consistency. I added around 3/4 cup of water.batter for rava uttapam or instant rave uthappa
  4. Next dry roast peanuts or shenga under medium flame. Once they are cool, rub, deskin and halve them.peanuts for rava uttapam or instant rave uthappa
  5. Parallely finely chop the onions.chopped onion for rava uttapam or instant rave uthappa
  6. Take chopped onion and a tsp of cooking oil in a frying pan and heat it. Roast the chopped onion until tranlucent. Wait until warm.frying chopped onion for rava uttapam or instant rave uthappa
  7. Parallely add in finely chopped coriander leaves, curry leaves, green chili and salt in to the batter. Give a quick stir.coriander and curry leaves for rava uttapam or instant rave uthappa
  8. Next add in roasted onion and roasted peanuts. Mix everything well. Make sure that the final batter is thick yet spreadable over the pan.roasted onion and peanuts for rava uttapam or instant rave uthappa
  9. Heat a dosa pan or tawa. Drop a laddle full of batter over the pan and spread it slightly.making rava uttapam or instant rave uthappa
  10. Close the lid and allow it to cook under medium flame.cooking rava uttapam or instant rave uthappa
  11. Open the lid, drizzle some oil and flip the uttapam. Cook on the other side as well. Serve it hot with coconut chutney.cooking rava uttapam or instant rave uthappa
