Rave ottu shavige or rava shavige recipe explained with step by step pictures and video. Rave ottu shavige or rava noodles is prepared using rave, salt and water. Rave ottu shavige or rava idiyappam is a breakfast recipe and is popular by different names like semettu, shamige, shyavige, idiyappam and nool puttu. Rave ottu shavige is a very easy and instant noodles recipe.

You can also find the regular akki ottu shavige or rice noodles recipe here. Here in this rava shavige recipe, I have used medium rava or upma rava. But if you have fine rava, I would suggest you to use fine rava only. To begin with the rava is cooked, kneaded, dumplings are prepared, pressed using the noodles mould and then steamed for few minutes. This rava shavige is a quick breakfast recipe and you can prepare it in just 20 minutes. Especially when you are bored with uppittu (or upma), this rave shavige or rava idiyappam is an ideal choice.

These rave shavige or rava idiyappam are best served with either chitranna bajji (a sweet chutney) or coconut chutney or can be tempered like chitranna.

Rave shavige recipe

Preparation time: 2 min
Cooking time: 20 min
Serves: 2

Ingredients: (measuring cup used = 240ml)

  1. 1/2 cup rava (fine or medium)
  2. 2 cups of water
  3. 1/2 tsp ghee or cooking oil
  4. 1/2 tsp salt (or as per your taste)

Instructions for making rave shavige:

  1. Boil the water in a wide pan along with ghee and salt.boil water for rave shavige or rava idiyappam
  2. When the water starts boiling, add in rava gradually and mix it well. I have used medium unroasted rava.rava for rave shavige or rava idiyappam
  3. Once it is thick, switch off the stove.cooking semolina for rave shavige or rava idiyappam
  4. Cover and set it aside.dough for rave shavige or rava idiyappam
  5. Wait until the excess heat is reduced. Knead it well. You can sprinkle little water, if you find it very dry.kneading dough for rave shavige or rava idiyappam
  6. Knead it well. Make sure there are no lumps. Make long cylindrical shaped dumplings.dough for rave shavige or rava idiyappam
  7. Grease the idli plates. I have put little coconut to enhance the shavige flavour.idli plates for rave shavige or rava idiyappam using chakli mould
  8. Now take the shavige press or mould and press the dumplings.making rave shavige or rava idiyappam using chakli mould
  9. Steam cook it for 5 - 6 minutes.steaming rave shavige or rava idiyappam
  10. Take them out once the excess heat is reduced. Serve it with chutney or curry of your choice.steamed rave shavige or rava idiyappam
