Parota recipe explained with step by step pictures and a video. This is an easy layered parota recipe prepared using maida flour, salt, oil and water. This recipe is originally from Kerala. And this is how plain maida parotas are prepared in Kerala hotel. However you can prepare this parota using wheat flour also.

Plain parota recipe

Preparation time: 1 hour
Cooking time: 10 min
Serves: 4 no

Ingredients: (measuring cup used = 240ml)

  1. 1 cup maida flour
  2. Salt as per your taste
  3. 4 tbsp oil

Instructions for making hotel style plain paratha or kerala style parota:

  1. Take maida and salt in a wide bowl.maida and salt for hotel style plain paratha or kerala style parota
  2. Next add in water little by little and start kneading the dough.water for hotel style plain paratha or kerala style parota
  3. Knead it into a soft but stiff dough. At the end add in 2 tbsp of oil.oil for hotel style plain paratha or kerala style parota
  4. Knead it again for a while.dough for hotel style plain paratha or kerala style parota
  5. Close the lid and rest it for 30 minutes to 1 hour.resting the dough for hotel style plain paratha or kerala style parota
  6. After resting, pinch out the dough and make lemon sized balls.dough for hotel style plain paratha or kerala style parota
  7. Roll the dough into very thin sheet by applying the required oil. Do not worry about the shape.rolling hotel style plain paratha or kerala style parota
  8. Coil the rolled parota (refer the video). Finish rolling all the dough and rest it for 5 minutes.rolling hotel style plain paratha or kerala style parota
  9. Next roll it again using fingers or a rolling pin.rolling hotel style plain paratha or kerala style parota
  10. Heat the pan and cook the parota.cooking hotel style plain paratha or kerala style parota

  12. When they are still warm flap them from all the directions with force using palms. Serve them with any curry of your choice.flap the hotel style plain paratha or kerala style parota
