Thin sev mixture or kara sev mixture recipe explained with step by step pictures and a quick video. Thin kara sev mixture is prepared using gram flour, peanuts, roastd gram and few other spices. This thin kara sev mixture is very easy to make and tastes delicious.

This is a continuation of my earlier post thin kara sev or plain sev. We do not prefer eating plain sev, instead I make different types of mixture using the sev. Here I have explained a simple and most common type of mixture using thin sev. You can add or leave any ingredients you wish. Even the quantity of peanuts or roasted gram can be varied as per your choice. My Mother will add deep fried thick beaten rice or poha. Thin sev mixture recipe

Preparation time: 10 min
Cooking time: 10 min
Serves: 4

Ingredients for sev: (measuring cup used = 240ml)

  1. 1 cup gram flour or besan or kadlehittu
  2. 1/2 tsp red chili powder
  3. 1/2 tsp carom seeds or ajwain seeds or Oma kaalu
  4. 1/2 tsp salt
  5. A generous pinch of asafoetida
  6. 1 tbsp hot oil
  7. Oil to deep fry

Ingredients for mixture: (measuring cup used = 240ml)

  1. 4 tbsp peanuts or ground nut or shenga
  2. 4 tbsp roasted gram or hurigadale or putani
  3. 1 sprig curry leaves
  4. 1/4 tsp red chili powder
  5. 1 tsp oil
  6. Salt as per your taste
  7. 7 - 8 cashews (optional)
  8. 1 tbsp dry coconut slices (optional)

Instructions for making thin sev mixture:

  1. Crush or grind the carom seeds and sieve it.carom seeds powder for thin kara sev mixture or omapodi mixture
  2. Take gram flour in a wide bowl.gram flour for thin kara sev mixture or omapodi mixture
  3. Add in red chili powder, ajwain or carom seeds powder, salt and asafoetida. Give a quick mix.spices for thin kara sev mixture or omapodi mixture
  4. Add in 1 tbsp of hot oil and mix well again.hot oil for thin kara sev mixture or omapodi mixture
  5. Now sprinkle water little by little and prepare the dough. The dough should be having very thick sticky paste consistency. Or I would say little thinner than soft chapathi dough.dough for thin kara sev mixture or omapodi mixture
  6. Now take the kara sev making mould along with the plate having many small holes. Fill in the dough in to the mould using a spoon.filling dough in the mould for thin kara sev mixture or omapodi mixture
  7. Heat the oil in a wide frying pan. And press the dough directly in to the hot oil using the mould. making thin kara sev mixture or omapodi mixture
  8. Fry under medium flame until the bubbles or sound has stopped.frying thin kara sev mixture or omapodi mixture
  9. Once done take it out from the oil. Once cool, crush it slightly and keep it aside.fried thin kara sev mixture or omapodi mixture
  10. Next in a frying pan heat 1 tsp of oil and roast the peanuts along with curry leaves under low medium flame.peanuts for thin kara sev mixture or omapodi mixture
  11. When the peanuts are roasted and crispy, reduce the flame and add in roasted gram. Also add in red chili powder as per your spice level.roasted gram for thin kara sev mixture or omapodi mixture
  12. Give a quick mix and switch off the stove. Also add in a pinch of salt or as per your taste. Give a good mix.salt for thin kara sev mixture or omapodi mixture
  13. Add this to the crushed kara sev.making thin kara sev mixture or omapodi mixture
  14. Mix them well using hands and enjoy the thin sev mixture along with a cup of tea.thin kara sev mixture or omapodi mixture
