Baale moothi chutney recipe

Preparation time: 10 min
Cooking time: 5 min
Serves: 4

Ingredients: (measuring cup used = 240ml)

  1. 1 cup chopped balle hoovu or banana flower
  2. 1/2 cup grated coconut
  3. 2 - 4 red chili
  4. 1 tsp coriander seeds
  5. Small marble sized tamarind
  6. Salt as per your taste

Ingredients for tempering:

  1. 2 tsp cooking oil
  2. 1 red chili (optional)
  3. 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
  4. 2 tsp urad dal

Instructions for making banana flower chutney:

  1. Take fresh banana flower. Some banana flowers will be slightly bitter so discard 2 - 3 outer covers. The banana flowers from "nendra baale" or "elakki baale" are less bitter and tastes good.baale hoo or banana flower for chutney
  2. Next finely chop the banana flower. I have used only a cup of this. Remaining banana flower I used in banana stir fry recipe.chopped banana flower for baale hoo or banana flower chutney
  3. Take a small frying pan and prepare tempering using oil, red chili, mustard seeds and urad dal. We will be adding this while grinding.
  4. Next take all the ingredients as per measurement for grinding the chutney. Transfer all ingredients except tempering in to a mixie jar.ingredients for grinding baale hoo or banana flower chutney
  5. Grind until smooth paste using required water. At the end add the tempering and grind it again. Enjoy with hot steaming rice.grinding baale hoo or banana flower chutney
