5 minute tomato saaru or quick rasam recipe

Garlic rasam or bellulli saaru recipe explained using step by step pictures and a video. This is a super fast saru or rasam recipe and it can be prepared in just 5 minutes. This quick and easy garlic rasam or tomato saru is prepared using garlic, tomato, tempering, salt, jaggery, salt, red chilli and green chilli.

This is a very simple way to prepare garlic rasam. There is no toor dal and no rasam powder in this recipe. To keep it simple I haven't added coriander leaves also. However to the same recipe you can add rasam powder and coriander leaves if you wish.

The best part is you can prepare this rasam or saaru in just 5 minutes. So I would say this is a perfect recipe for bachelors and busy working mothers. You try this recipe and let me know how much time you actually took to prepare this saaru or rasam. I can finish this saaru in just five minutes.

Garlic rasam or bellulli saaru

Preparation time: 1 min
Cooking time: 5 min
Serves: 2

Ingredients: (measuring cup used = 240ml)

  1. 1 medium sized tomato
  2. 1 gooseberry sized tamarind
  3. 1 gooseberry sized jaggery
  4. 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
  5. 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
  6. 10 - 12 cloves of garlic
  7. 1 red chilli
  8. 1 slit green chili
  9. Big pinch asafoetida
  10. Big pinch turmeric powder
  11. 4-5 curry leaves
  12. 1 tbsp coriander leaves (optional)
  13. 1 tsp rasam powder (optional)
  14. 1 tbsp cooking oil / ghee
  15. Salt as per your taste.

Instructions for making garlic rasam or bellulli saaru:

  1. Heat a frying pan. Add in oil, mustard seeds, cumin seeds and broken red chillies.tempering for garlic rasam or bellulli saaru recipe
  2. When the mustard seed splutters add in curry leaves and slit gree chillies.green chili and curry leaves for garlic rasam or bellulli saaru recipe
  3. Followed by add in asafoetida and turmeric powder.turmeric and asafoetida for garlic rasam or bellulli saaru recipe
  4. Add in peeled and crushed garlic. Fry until garlic turns slightly brown.garlic for garlic rasam or bellulli saaru recipe
  5. Next add in chopped tomato. Fry until tomatoes are soft and mushy. You can few table spoons of water if required.tomato for garlic rasam or bellulli saaru recipe
  6. Add in salt, tamarind extract and jaggery. Adjust all three as per your taste. Give a quick mix and bring it to boil.tamarind and jaggery for garlic rasam or bellulli saaru recipe
  7. Also add in 1.5 to 2 cups of water.water for garlic rasam or bellulli saaru recipe
  8. Bring it to roling boil. Optionally you can add a tsp of rasam powder and some coriander leaves. Switch off the stove. Serve it with hot steaming riceboiling garlic rasam or bellulli saaru recipe
