Broken wheat, toor dal, green gram dal and mixed vegetables are the main ingredients in this broken wheat bisi bele bath. This is wholesome healthy one pot meal recipe. Broken wheat or godhi kadi or godi nucchu bisi bele bath is a very tasty and healthy breakfast recipe from Indian state of Karnataka.

The recipe is very similar to authentic bisi bele bath, which is prepared using rice, toor dal and vegetables. Preparing bisi bele bath is very easy if you have bisi bele bath powder. Broken wheat bisibele bath recipe

Preparation time: 10 min
Cooking time: 40 min
Serves: 4

Ingredients: (measuring cup used = 240ml)

  1. 1/4 cup green gram dal or moong dal
  2. 1/4 cup toor dal
  3. 3/4 cup broken wheat
  4. 2 tbsp peanuts or ground nuts
  5. 5 beans
  6. 1 small carrot
  7. 1 small potato
  8. 1 small tomato
  9. 2 tbsp fresh or soaked green peas
  10. 1 small gooseberry sized tamarind
  11. 1 small gooseberry sized jaggery
  12. 2 tbsp bisi bele bath powder (Or roast and grind the ingredients from the list below)
  13. 2 tbsp grated coconut
  14. A big pinch of turmeric powder
  15. Salt as per your taste

Ingredients required for masala powder (Skip if you have bisibele bath powder):

  1. 2-4 red chili
  2. 1 tsp chana dal
  3. 2 tsp urad dal
  4. 1/4 tsp meethi/fenugreek seeds
  5. 1/4 tsp mustard seeds
  6. 1/2 tsp jeera/ cumin seeds
  7. 2 tsp coriander seeds
  8. A big pinch of asafoetida
  9. 1/2 finger length cinnamon
  10. 6 cloves/lavang
  11. 1 small cardamom
  12. 1 tsp poppy seeds/ khus khus
  13. 1/2 tsp cooking oil

Ingredients required for tempering:

  1. 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
  2. 1 tsp chana dal or gram dal
  3. 1 tsp urad dal
  4. 8-10 cashews
  5. 7 - 8 curry leaves
  6. A big pinch of turmeric powder
  7. A big pinch of asafoetida
  8. 4 tbsp ghee or cooking oil

Instructions for making broken wheat bisibele bath:

  1. Chop all the vegetables and keep it ready.vegetables for broken wheat bisisbele bath
  2. Take green gram dal (or moong dal), toor dal and peanuts in a pressure cooker. Rinse them well, add in a cup of water and a pinch of turmeric powder.rinse mung dal for broken wheat bisisbele bath
  3. Pressure cook the dal and peanuts. I cooked it by making 2 whistles.cooked dal for broken wheat bisisbele bath
  4. Next add in broken wheat and chopped vegetables (beans, carrot, potato). Also add in green peas and chopped tomato.vegetables and dal for broken wheat bisisbele bath
  5. Add in 2 cups of water and cook them until soft or cook them by making 2 more whistles.vegetables and dal for broken wheat bisisbele bath
  6. Meantime, take a frying pan or wok and prepare tempering using oil (or ghee), mustard seeds, chana dal, urad dal and cashews.tempering for broken wheat bisisbele bath
  7. When the mustard seed splutters, add in curry leaves, turmeric powder and asafoetida. Optionally you can add chopped onion and chopped capsicum.curry leaves for broken wheat bisisbele bath
  8. Switch off the stove and add in ground bisibele bath masala powder, salt, jaggery and tamarind extract. Also add in grated coconut. Give a quick mix.masala powder for broken wheat bisisbele bath
