Alasande kalu gojju or lobia curry recipe explained with step by step pictures and a video. This is a very easy and tasty gojju or curry recipe prepared using black eyed beans or lobia. Alasande kalu gojju or curry goes very well with chapati. Alasande kalu gojju is a very simple recipe with very minimum ingredients.

I learnt this recipe from a Facebook food group. I have posted one alasande kalu or cowpea rasam recipe earlier, which is also very simple and tasty gravy recipe. This alasande gojju or curry is prepared using black eyed beans, onion, coriander leaves, green chili and garlic.

Alasande kalu gojju or lobia curry recipe

Preparation time: 2 hrs
cooking time: 30 min
Serves: 4

Ingredients: (measuring cup used = 240ml)

  1. 1/2 cup alasande kalu or or black eyed white beans or lobia
  2. 1 onion finely chopped
  3. Pinch of turmeric powder
  4. Salt as per your taste

Ingredients for grinding:

  1. 4 - 5 cloves of garlic or 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
  2. 2 - 4 green chilies
  3. One handful coriander leaves

Ingredients for tempering:

  1. 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
  2. 4 - 5 curry leaves
  3. 4 tsp cooking oil

Instructions for making alasande gojju or curry:

  1. Soak 1/2 cup of alasande kalu or lobia in water for 2 hours. Soaking is optional. If you are in hurry proceed to step 2. Alasande kaalu or lobia will get cooked fast even without soaking.soak lobia for alasande kalu gojju or curry
  2. Cook the soaked alasande kalu or lobia until very soft. Use pressure cooker and required water to cook. Do not add salt.cook lobia for alasande kalu gojju or curry
  3. Mash the alasande kalu or lobia a bit using the back of a spatula.mash lobia for alasande kalu gojju or curry
  4. Meantime grind garlic (or cumin seeds), green chili and coriander leaves into a fine paste using mixer grinder.grind the spices for alasande kalu gojju or curry
  5. Next in a frying pan prepare tempering using oil, mustard seeds and curry leaves.tempering for alasande kalu gojju or curry
  6. Add in finely chopped onion and fry until soft.onion for alasande kalu gojju or curry
  7. Add in ground spice or masala paste from step 4. Also add in turmeric powder. Stir until raw smell is gone.masala for alasande kalu gojju or curry
  8. Add in cooked and mashed alasande kaalu or lobia. Also add in salt as per your taste.cooked lobia for alasande kalu gojju or curry
  9. Add in required water and bring it to boil. Please note this curry will become thick once it is cool. So add the water accordingly. Serve it hot with chapathi.boiling alasande kalu gojju or lobia curry
