Oats khichdi is prepared using moong dal (hesarubele), oats, mixed vegetables, onion, tomato, ginger, ghee, green chilli, black pepper and few other spices. This is a very tasty and healthy light dinner recipe and can be prepared in very less time. I have prepared this khichdi using oats, which can be replaced with rice or broken wheat.

Oats khichdi recipe

Preparation time: 10 min
Cooking time: 30 min
Serves: 3

Ingredients: (measuring cup used = 240ml)

  1. 1/4 cup moong dal or hesarubele
  2. 1/2 cup oats (can be replaced with rice or broken wheat)
  3. 1 tbsp ghee
  4. 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
  5. 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
  6. 1/2 tsp chopped ginger
  7. Few curry leaves
  8. 1/2 onion finely chopped
  9. 1 - 2 green chillies
  10. Crushed black pepper (as per taste)
  11. Big pinch turmeric powder
  12. Big pinch asafoetida
  13. 1/2 tomato chopped
  14. 1/2 cup mixed vegetables (beans, carrot, peas, capsicum, cabbage etc.,)
  15. Salt as per your taste

Instructions for making oats khichdi recipe:

  1. To begin with soak moong dal for 15 minutes. In that time, chop all the vegetables.moong dal for oats moong dal khichdi recipe
  2. Heat 1 tbsp ghee in a pressure cooker.ghee for oats moong dal khichdi recipe
  3. Prepare tempering using mustard seeds and cumin seeds.tempering for oats moong dal khichdi recipe
  4. Add in finely chopped ginger, curry leaves, slit green chilli and chopped onion. Fry everything together for a minute.ginger, green chilli and onion for oats moong dal khichdi recipe
