Nimbe hannina saaru or lemon rasam recipe explained with step by step pictures and a video. This is a very easy and very tasty lemon rasam or nimbe hannina saaru. This nimbe hannna saaru is prepared using toor dal, tomato, green chilli, garlic, cumin seeds, coriander leaves, grated coconut, salt, mustard and curry leaves. Nimbe hannina saaru or lemon rasam is very tasty, healthy and goes very well with rice.

This tangy nimbe hannu saaru or lemon rasam is sour, a bit spicy, filled lemon flavour and a very good appetizer. Nimbe hannu saaru or lemon rasam

Preparation time: 5 min
Cooking time: 20 min
Serves: 2 cup

Ingredients: (measuring cup used = 240ml)

  1. 1/4 cup toor dal (or green gram dal)
  2. Big pinch turmeric
  3. 1 tsp cumin seeds
  4. 1 tomato chopped
  5. 4 tsp lemon juice (or as per your taste)
  6. Salt as per your taste
  7. 2 tbsp coriader leaves
  8. 2 tbsp fresh grated coconut
  9. 2 cups of water

Ingredients for tempering:

  1. 1 - 2 green chilli
  2. 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
  3. 4 - 5 crushed garlic (or a pinch of asafoetida
  4. 7 - 8 curry leaves
  5. 1 tbsp cooking oil

Instructions for making nimbe hannu saaru or lemon rasam:

  1. Take toor dal in a pressure cooker. You can use moong dal (green gram dal) too.toor dal for nimbe hannu saaru or lemon rasam
  2. Rinse it well and add in a tsp of cumin seeds.rinsed toor dal for nimbe hannu saaru or lemon rasam
  3. Also add in chopped tomato.tomato for nimbe hannu saaru or lemon rasam
  4. Add in a cup of water and a big pinch of turmeric powder.turmeric powder for nimbe hannu saaru or lemon rasam
  5. Cook until dals turn soft by making 3 - 4 whistles.cooked dal and tomato for nimbe hannu saaru or lemon rasam
  6. Mash the dal and tomato using the back of a spatula.mashed dal for nimbe hannu saaru or lemon rasam
  7. Add in a cup of water and salt as per your taste.salt for nimbe hannu saaru or lemon rasam
  8. Next prepare tempering with oil, mustard seeds, curry leaves, crushed garlic and green chilli. Adjust the green chillies as per your spice level.tempering for nimbe hannu saaru or lemon rasam
  9. Pour the tempering into the container, which has cooked dal and tomato.tempering for nimbe hannu saaru or lemon rasam
  10. Keep it for boiling and give a quick mix.boiling nimbe hannu saaru or lemon rasam
  11. Continue boiling for 4 - 5 minutes. Meantime add in chopped coriander leaves and fresh grated coconut.coriander leaves and coconut nimbe hannu saaru or lemon rasam
  12. Bring it to rolling boil and switch off the stove.boiling nimbe hannu saaru or lemon rasam
  13. Immediately add in lemon juice. And serve it with hot steaming rice.lemon juice for nimbe hannu saaru or lemon rasam
