Goddu saaru or instant bele saru recipe explained with step by step pictures and a video. Goddu saaru is prepared using toor dal, coconut, red chili, coriander seeds, slt, jaggery and tamarind. Goddu saaru or instant rasam is very tasty, healthy and goes very well with rice.

Goddu saaru is a no-tomato rasam recipe. And this is one of the simple and quick rasam with dal. Since dal is roasted and ground along with other spices, dal cooking time is saved. This goddu saaru or instant rasam has a unique roasted dal flavor and tastes too good with rice. This is a perfect recipe when someone is sick and lost appetite.

Goddu saaru or instant rasam

Preparation time: 5 min
Cooking time: 10 min
Serves: 1 litre

Ingredients: (measuring cup used = 240ml)

  1. 2 tbsp toor dal
  2. 1 tbsp coriander seeds
  3. 2 - 4 red chilies
  4. 1/4 cup grated coconut
  5. 1 small lemon sized tamarind (or as per your taste)
  6. 1 small lemon sized jaggery (or as per your taste)
  7. 2 tsp salt (or as per your taste)
  8. 1 tbsp finely chopped coriander leaves
  9. 1 tsp cooking oil

Ingredients for tempering:

  1. 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
  2. 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
  3. 1 red chilli
  4. A big pinch of asafoetida
  5. 5 - 6 curry leaves
  6. 1 tbsp ghee or cooking oil

Instructions for making goddu saaru or instant rasam:

  1. Heat a frying pan. Add in toor dal, coriander seeds, red chilies and 1 tsp of oil.spices for goddu saaru or instant rasam recipe
  2. Roast until dals are slightly brown and until you get nice aroma under medium flame.roasted spices for goddu saaru or instant rasam recipe
  3. Wait until cool. Grind it into fine paste along with grated coconut by adding required water.coconut for goddu saaru or instant rasam recipe
  4. Meanwhile heat a frying pan. Prepare tempering with oil, red chili, cumin seeds, mustard seeds, curry leaves and asafoetida.tempering for goddu saaru or instant rasam recipe
  5. Add in required salt, tamarind extract, jaggery and one cup of water.salt, tamarind and jaggery for goddu saaru or instant rasam recipe
  6. Bring it to boil and add in ground masala.ground masala for goddu saaru or instant rasam recipe
  7. Add in required water and give a quick mix.water for goddu saaru or instant rasam recipe
  8. Bring it to rolling boil. Continue boiling for a minute under low flame.boiling goddu saaru or instant rasam recipe
