Masala peanuts or kara kadle recipe explained with step by step pictures. Masala peanuts are prepared using peanuts, gram flour, red chili powder, salt, turmeric powder and asafoetida. These deep fried masala or spicy peanuts are familiar by name kara kalde or masale kadlekai in Kannada.

Masala peanuts are very popular tea time snacks from Indian state of Karnataka. These are loved by all and one of my most favorite snacks. Preparing kara kadle at home is very easy. Kara kadle or masala peanuts recipe

Preparation time: 10 min
Cooking time: 10 min
Serves: 1 cup

Ingredients: (measuring cup used = 240ml)

  1. 1 cup peanuts or ground nuts or kadlekai or shenga
  2. 1/4 cup gram flour or besan
  3. 1 tbsp rice flour
  4. 1 - 2 tsp red chili powder (use kashmiri chili powder to get good color)
  5. 1/4 tsp asafoetida
  6. 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
  7. Oil for deep frying
  8. Salt as per your taste.

Instructions for making Kara kadle or masala peanuts:

  1. In a bowl take gram flour (besan), rice flour, salt, red chili powder, turmeric powder and asafoetida. Give a quick mix. You can also add any spices of your choice. gram flour and spices for masala peanuts or kara kadlekai
  2. Next add peanuts or shenga.peanuts for masala peanuts or kara kadlekai
  3. Use very little water and mix everything well. Use water, which is just sufficient to coat the peanuts with spices. I used around 6 tbsp of water.mixing peanuts for masala peanuts or kara kadlekai
  4. Spread them and keep it aside for 5 minutes.masala coated peanuts for masala peanuts or kara kadlekai
  5. After 5 minutes you can see the peanuts have obsorbed the water and has become more dry.masala coated peanuts for masala peanuts or kara kadlekai
  6. Take a frying pan with enough cooking oil and heat it. Now drop the masala coated peanuts and deep fry them under medium flame. Do not drop them like a lump or Try to separate them while dropping them in the oil.deep frying the peanuts for masala peanuts or kara kadlekai
  7. Fry them under medium flame until bubbles are stopped. Take them out, wait until cool and enjoy it with a cup of hot masala tea.deep frying the peanuts for masala peanuts or kara kadlekai
