Tomato soup recipe explained with step by step pictures and a video. Tomato soup is prepared using tomato, garlic, onion and cornflour. Tomato soup is a healthy and tasty drink. Tomato soup is very easy to prepare with minimum ingredients.

I have used a tsp of cornflour in this tomato soup recipe. If you do not have cornflour, you can substitute it with a small piece of potato or a tsp of maida. But if you want to use potato then you need to add it with carrot and tomato. And if you want to use maida then you need to prepare white sauce using maida, butter and little milk. Preparing white sauce is easy. I have already explained it in white sauce pasta recipe.

Tomato soup recipe

Preparation time: 10 min
Cooking time: 20 min
Serves: 2

Ingredients: (measuring cup used = 240ml)

  1. 4 - 5 medium sized tomatoes
  2. 2 cloves of garlic
  3. 1 medium sized onion
  4. 1/2 carrot
  5. 2 tsp butter
  6. 1/2 tsp black pepper (or as per your taste)
  7. 1/2 tsp salt (or as per your taste)
  8. 1 tsp corn flour or maida or 1 finger sized potato
  9. 1/4 - 1/2 tsp sugar (optional or as per your taste)
  10. 1 cup water
  11. 1 tsp fresh cream (optional)
  12. 1 Bread slice (optional; I didn't use)

Instructions for making tomato soup:

  1. Wash and chop garlic, onion and tomato. To begin with take 2 tsp of butter in a frying pan and heat it.Add in chopped garlic, onion and fry until translucent.frying garlic and onion for tomato soup
  2. Add in chopped carrot and fry for few seconds. If you are using potato instead of cornflour add it now. You can also add a small piece of beetroot if you want a red tomato soup.chopped carrot for tomato soup
  3. Add in chopped tomato and fry for few seconds.chopped tomato for tomato soup
  4. Add in little salt and black pepper. Mix well for a minute under medium flame.salt and pepper for tomato soup
  5. Close the lid and cook for 5 minutes under low flame. cooking tomato and onion for tomato soup
  6. Wait until cool and blend it or grind it into a fine tomato puree using blender or mixer grinder.grinding the fried ingredients for tomato soup
  7. Strain the tomato puree using a strainer. Pour in extra water to the residue and strain it completely with the help of a spoon. Please note this step is optional.straining the ground tomato for tomato soup
  8. Keep the strained tomato puree for boiling and add in 1 tsp of cornflour mixed in 4 tbsp of water. Also add in remaining water. If you want to use maida, melt 1 tsp of butter, add a tsp of maida mixed with little milk, boil it to get white sauce and then add the tomato puree. No need to add corn flour or maida if you have already added potato.boiling tomato soup
  9. Bring it to boil and switch off the stove. Serve it hot with salt and pepper powder. Optionally you can top it with fresh cream or bread croutons.fresh cream for tomato soup
