Rave halbai or rava halubai recipe explained with step by step pictures and a video. Rave halbai is prepared using rava, jaggery and coconut. This rava halbai or rave halu bai is a very healthy and tasty recipe. Rava halbai is a quick halubai recipe as there is no soaking involved.

You can find original akki halbai and a tasty ragi halbai recipe on this website. Both of them are prepared using soaking method.

Halbai or halubai is a traditional sweet recipe from Karnataka. Rava halbai is a very healthy sweet recipe and is very good for kids. My son loves this a lot. Generally sweets are either loaded with sugar or loaded with high calorie or prepared using maida or deep fried. But these kind of sweets are prepared using coconut, jaggery and very little ghee. So one can enjoy halbai without any hesitation.

This is a very easy recipe but stirring is a bit tiresome. You will have to put little extra strength to stir or mix when it becomes thick mass. Rave halbai recipe

Preparation time: 4 hours
Cooking time: 30 min
Serves: 4

Ingredients: (measuring cup used = 240ml)

  1. 1/2 cup fine rava or medium rava
  2. 1/2 cup grated coconut
  3. 1/2 cup jaggery (can vary depending on your taste)
  4. 2 tbsp ghee
  5. 2 cardamom
  6. 1.25 cups of water

Instructions for making rave halbai or rava halubai:

  1. Take coconut in a mixie jar.coconut for rave halbai ir rava halubai
  2. Add in rave or rava. I have used fine rava or chiroti rava. You can use medium rava as well.rava for rave halbai or rava halubai
  3. Followed by add in cardamom.thin batter for rave halbai or rava halubai
  4. Grind it into a semifine batter by adding 1 cup of water (2 times the rava quantity).jaggery and salt for rave halbai or rava halubai
  5. Also dissolve the jaggery in 1/4 cup of water (1/2 of rava quantity).greased plate for rave halbai or rava halubai
  6. Transfer the ground batter into a thick bottomed pan. Add in jaggery water. Keep it on the stove top and start cooking under medium flame.ghee for rave halbai or rava halubai
  7. Keep stirring continuously. It will turn thick in 4 - 5 minutes. Add in a tbsp of ghee and continue stirring under medium flame.ghee for rave halbai or rava halubai
  8. After few minutes add one more tbsp of ghee and continue stirring. You can add more ghee if you wish. At one point it will come together and starts to leave the sides. It will also get a shine and, if you touch using wet fingers.stirring rave halbai or rava halubai
  9. Meantime grease a tray or plate with ghee.grease the plate for rave halbai or rava
  10. Pour the hot halbai or rava halwa onto the greased plate.rave halbai or rava halubai in the greased plate
  11. Take a spoon or a piece of banana leaf greased with ghee and flatten the halbai or halwa.flattening hot rave halbai or rava halubai
  12. Once it is warm cut it into pieces and serve.final rave halbai or rava halubai
