Tomato kurma or tomato gojju recipe explained with step by step pictures and a video. This is a very tasty tomato gojju or tomato kurma recipe prepared using onion, ginger, garlic, tomato, green chilli and fresh ground masala. Tomato kurma or tomato gojju tastes good with rice or chapathi or dosa or idli.

Tomato kurma recipe

Preparation time: 5 min
Cooking time: 10 min
Serves: 4

Ingredients: (measuring cup used = 240ml)

  1. 3 tomatoes
  2. 1 onion
  3. 1 tsp chopped ginger-garlic or paste
  4. 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
  5. Few curry leaves
  6. 1 - 2 green chilli
  7. 3 tbsp cooking oil / Ghee
  8. Some coriander leaves
  9. Big pinch turmeric powder
  10. Salt as per your taste

Ingredients for grinding:

  1. 1/4 cup grated coconut
  2. 2 tsp sesame seeds (or peanuts)
  3. 3 - 4 red chillies
  4. 1 tsp coriander seeds
  5. 1/2 cumin seeds
  6. 1/4 tsp methi seeds
  7. 2 cardamom
  8. 2cm length cinnamon
  9. 4 - 5 cloves

Instructions for making tomato kurma:

  1. Take the ingredients listed under "for grinding" like red chillies, sesame seeds (or peanuts), coriander seeds, cumin seeds and methi seeds in a pan.spices for tomato kurma or tomato gojju
  2. Roast until sesame seeds start to splutter under medium flame. Reduce the flame and add in cardamom, cinnamon and cloves. Roast everything together for few more seconds and switch off the stove.roasting spices for tomato kurma or tomato gojju
  3. Next take coconut in a mixie jar.coconut for tomato kurma or tomato gojju
  4. Add in roasted ingredients and required water.roasted spices for tomato kurma or tomato gojju
  5. Grind it until fine paste. Masala is ready, keep it aside.ground masala for tomato kurma or tomato gojju
  6. Next heat oil in a pan. You need to add 3 - 4 tbsp of oil for this kurma. Add in cumin seeds.oil and cumin seeds for tomato kurma or tomato gojju
  7. Wait until cumin seeds splutter. Add in chopped onion, ginger-garlic and curry leaves. Start frying under medium flame.onion and ginger-garlic for tomato kurma or tomato gojju
  8. You can add slit green chillies for added spiciness. Fry until tomatoes are soft.green chilli for tomato kurma or tomato gojju
  9. Next add in chopped tomatoes and saute for a minute.tomatoes for tomato kurma or tomato gojju
  10. Add in a tsp of salt and a big pinch of turmeric powder. Give a quick mix.salt and turmeric for tomato kurma or tomato gojju
  11. Close the lid and allow it to cook for few inutes.cooking tomato for tomato kurma or tomato gojju
  12. Add in ground masala.masala for tomato kurma or tomato gojju
  13. Also add in required water. Close the lid and allow it to cook for 5 minutes.cooking tomato kurma or tomato gojju
  14. Open the lid. Adjust salt, sweet and sour level. You can add jaggery and tamarind juice as per your taste. I have added only the salt.salt for tomato kurma or tomato gojju
  15. At the end sprinkle coriander leaves and switch off the stove. Serve it with dosa or poori or chapathi or rice.coriander leaves for tomato kurma or tomato gojju
