Learn how to make instant soft idli without fermetation. This is a quick and simple idli recipe prepared using cooked rice, curd and idli rava. Instant cooked rice idli or leftover rice idli will be very soft. You can serve these instant soft idlis with coconut chutney or sambar.

This is an ultimate way to clear off the leftover rice. Also if you want to prepare idlis when you don't have idli batter, this recipe comes handy. I have used a pinch of cooking soda in this recipe. However you can avoid soda by resting the batter for 30 minutes. Also you need to use slightly sour curd in this recipe, to avoid the bland taste. If you don't have sour curd, don't worry, go ahead and prepare the idlis. But take care while preparing the chutney and sambar. Adding little tamarind to chutney and sambar will balance the bland taste of the idlis. Instant cooked rice idli

Preparation time: 15 min
Cooking time: 15 min
Serves: 12 idlis

Ingredients: (measuring cup used = 240ml)

  1. 1/2 cup cooked rice
  2. 1/2 cup curd (slightly sour)
  3. 1/2 cup idli rava
  4. A pinch of baking soda (optional)
  5. Salt as per your taste

Instructions for making cooked rice idli or leftover rice idli:

  1. Take cooked rice in a mixie jar. Add in 3 - 4 tbsp of water.cooked rice for cooked rice idli or leftover rice idli
  2. Grind it into a fine paste. You add minimum required water.grinding cooked rice for cooked rice idli or leftover rice idli
  3. Transfer the ground cooked rice into a bowl.ground cooked rice for cooked rice idli or leftover rice idli
  4. Add in idli rava or rice rava. You can add upma rava as well.idli rava for cooked rice idli or leftover rice idli
  5. Next add in 1/2 cup of curd and give a good mix.curd for cooked rice idli or leftover rice idli
  6. Add in salt as per your taste. I have added around 1/2 tsp of salt.salt for cooked rice idli or leftover rice idli
  7. Add in a pinch of baking soda. Adding soda is optional. If you want to avoid soda, rest the batter for 30 minutes.soda for cooked rice idli or leftover rice idli
  8. Mix it well. Add in minimum required water and prepare a thick batter having dropping consistency.Rest the batter for 15 minutes. After resting, if you find the batter thick, add in few tbsp of water and adjust the consistency. Don't make the batter thin, to avoid flat idlis. The batter should be thicker than regular idli batterbatter for cooked rice idli or leftover rice idli
  9. Grease the idli plates with oil or ghee and drop the batter to the idli moulds.batter in idli moulds for cooked rice idli or leftover rice idli
  10. Spread them.batter in idli moulds for cooked rice idli or leftover rice idli
  11. Steam it for 10 - 12 minutes. Place the idli plates only after the steam starts. Do not over cook the idlis.cooking cooked rice idli or leftover rice idli
  12. Wait for 2 minutes then take out the idlis. Serve it with spicy coconut chutney or idli sambar.cooked rice idli or leftover rice idli
