Paddu or guliyappa using cooked rice recipe explained with step by step pictures and a video. This paddu or appe is a tasty breakfast recipe prepared using leftover rice. This cooked rice paddu is prepared using cooked rice, rava, curd, coriander leaves, onion, green chili and curry leaves. Cooked rice paddu is an instant breakfast recipe and is very easy to prepare.

To prepare paddu or guliyappa or paniyaram or appe, a different type of pan with pits is used. I have posted few recipes like normal paddu, bread paddu, cucumber paddu, sabakki or sabudana paddu, sabsige soppu paddu or dill leaves appe and sweet banana paddu recipes using the same pan. Paddu using leftover rice

Preparation time: 5 min
Cooking time: 10 min
Serves: 2

Ingredients: (measuring cup used = 240ml)

  1. 1 cup cooked rice
  2. 2 tbsp rava or semolina
  3. 1 tbsp curd (optional)
  4. 1/2 onion finely chopped
  5. 7 - 8 finely chopped curry leaves
  6. 1 tbsp finely chopped coriander leaves
  7. 1 green chili finely chopped
  8. Pinch of turmeric powder
  9. Pinch of asafoetida
  10. Oil for cooking
  11. Salt as per your taste

Instructions for making paddu using leftover rice:

  1. Mash or grind the cooked rice. It can be mashed, if it is soft and cooked well. Otherwise grind it using a mixer grinder. Few table spoons of water can be added for better grinding.cooked rice for paddu using leftover rice
  2. Add in finely chopped onion, green chilli, curry leaves and coriander leaves.onion, curry leaves and green chili for paddu using leftover rice
  3. Followed by add in turmeric powder and asafoetida.turmeric powder and asafoetida for paddu using leftover rice
  4. Add in required salt.salt for paddu using leftover rice
  5. Add in rava. I have used uppittu or upma rava.rava for paddu using leftover rice
  6. Add in curd. Please note adding curd is optional.curd for paddu using leftover rice
  7. Give a quick mix. If required add few table spoons of water and prepare a soft but stiff dough.batter for paddu using leftover rice
  8. Make lemon sized balls and a dent in the centre. This is done for better cooking.batter for paddu using leftover rice
  9. Now heat the paddu pan and put few drops of oil in all the pits.pan for making paddu using leftover rice
  10. Place the soft paddu balls in the pan..pour batter for making paddu using leftover rice
  11. Close the lid for a minute. Allow it to cook under medium flame.cooking paddu using leftover rice
  12. Open the lid and drizzle oil on top. Flip the paddus and cook on the other side as well. Serve it with chutney and enjoy.drizzle oil for paddu using leftover rice
