You need to just add boiling water to prepare avalakki oggarane or poha. This avalakki ready mix is prepared using medium thick beaten rice, onion, green chilli, peanuts, curry leaves, ginger, salt, sugar, coriander leaves, dry coconut, lemon juice and a big fat tempering.

Ready mix or instant mix recipes are very useful. Especially this avalakki ready mix recipe is very handy during hurry days, when guests are at home and while travelling. You can also prepare this when you are out of the house for couple of days. It helps your loved ones.

I have used 2 cups of medium thick beaten rice or poha in this recipe, which goes well for the recipe. However you can use thick beaten rice or gatti avalakki if medium thick is unavailable. Avalakki oggarane ready mix recipe

Preparation time: 5 min
Cooking time: 15 min
Serves: 2

Ingredients: (measuring cup used = 240ml)

  1. 2 cup medium thick beaten rice or poha or avalakki
  2. 2 tbsp ground nut or peanuts or shenga
  3. 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
  4. 1 tsp urad dal
  5. 1 tsp bengal gram dal / chana dal
  6. 5 - 6 cashews
  7. 1 onion
  8. 1-2 green chili
  9. 1 tsp chopped ginegr
  10. 7 - 8 curry leaves
  11. 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
  12. Big pinch asafoetida
  13. 2 tbsp cooking oil
  14. Salt as per your taste
  15. 1/2 tsp sugar
  16. 1 tbsp chopped coriander leaves
  17. 2 tbsp dry coconut
  18. 1 tsp lemon juice

Instructions for making avalakki oggarane ready mix:

  1. Heat oil in a big deep frying pan. Add in ground nuts or peanuts. Fry until peanut starts crackling.peanuts for avalakki oggarane ready mix or instant mix
  2. Next add in mustard seeds. When mustard seed splutters add in urad dal, chana dal (gram dal) and cashews. Keep the stove on medium flame.tempering for avalakki oggarane ready mix or instant mix
  3. When the dal turns brown add in chopped ginger, green chillies, finely chopped onion and fry until onions turn translucent.ginger, green chili, onion and curry leaves for avalakki oggarane ready mix or instant mix
  4. Next add in dry coconut, salt, sugar, turmeric powder and asafoetida. Fry everything together for a minute.coconut, salt and suager for avalakki oggarane ready mix or instant mix
  5. Add in avalakki (beaten rice or poha).beaten rice or poha for avalakki oggarane ready mix or instant mix
  6. Give a good mix under low flame for about 5 minutes.mixing for avalakki oggarane ready mix or instant mix
  7. At the end add in coriander leaves and lemon juice. Give a good mix and switch off the stove. Make sure the ready mix is turned crisp by now. Avalakki instant mix is ready.
