Southekayi avalakki or cucumber poha recipe explained with step by step pictures and video. This is a very easy, tasty and healthy recipe prepared using thin beaten rice, onion, tomato, cucumber, green chilli, peanut, mustard, cumin and curry leaves. You can serve this avalakki upkari or thin poha recipe as a breakfast item or as evening snacks.

This is a healthy avalakki recipe with raw cucumber and tomato. It uses very less oil and no-coconut as well. So if you are interested in weight loss, then this is the perfect recipe.

I like avalakki recipes a lot. I find them very tasty and very easy to prepare. I have added little sugar in this recipe, which is optional and you can skip it. And if you wish you can add litle lemon juice at the end. You can also top it with sev while serving.

Southekayi avalakki recipe

Preparation time: 10 min
Cooking time: 0 min
Serves: 2

Ingredients: (measuring cup used = 240ml)

  1. 2 - 3 cup thin beaten rice or avalakki or poha
  2. 2 tbsp ground nut or peanut
  3. 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
  4. 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
  5. 1 - 2 green chili
  6. 4 - 5 curry leaves
  7. 1 onion
  8. 1 tomato
  9. 1 small sized cucumber
  10. 1/2 tsp sugar (optional)
  11. Salt as per your taste
  12. 1 tbsp cooking oil
  13. 1 tbsp coriander leaves
  14. 1/2 tsp lemon juice (optional)

Instructions for making southekayi avalakki:

  1. Heat oil in a kadai or deep frying pan and roast the groundnuts or peanuts.peanut for southekayi avalakki or cucumber poha
  2. When ground nut starts crackling add in mustard seeds and cumin seeds.mustard and cumin for southekayi avalakki or cucumber poha
  3. When mustard seeds splutters, add in chopped green chili and curry leaves. Give a quick stir.green chili and curry leaves for southekayi avalakki or cucumber poha
  4. Next add in chopped onion and fry until soft.onion for southekayi avalakki or cucumber poha
  5. Followed by add in chopped tomato.tomato for southekayi avalakki or cucumber poha
  6. Immediately add in chopped peeled and chopped cucumber.cucumber for southekayi avalakki or cucumber poha
  7. Also add in salt and sugar as per your taste. Please note, suagr is optional.salt and sugar for southekayi avalakki or cucumber poha
  8. Mix everything well. And add in 2 cups of thin avalakki or poha. If you wish the avalakki to be dry, then you can add upto 3 cups.thin beaten rice for southekayi avalakki or cucumber poha
  9. Give a quick mix. Switch off the stove and garnish with coriander leaves..coriander leaves for southekayi avalakki or cucumber poha
  10. Southekayi avalakki or cucumber poha is ready to serve. You can top it with sev while serving.mixing southekayi avalakki or cucumber poha
