Gasagase payasa or poppy seeds kheer or khuskhus kheer is very tasty and is having good nutritional values. It is prepared using poppy seeds, rice, coconut, milk and jaggery.

This gasagase payasa or kheer will be having thin consistency. You will have to drink this using tumblers. You can also serve this payasa or kheer as a sidedish for soft idli. But if you want tick payasa or kheer then reduce the quantity of milk and water. Optionally you can also add cashews and badams (almonds) to make this payasa or kheer more thick and rich.

Poppy seeds is a nutritionally dense spice with high levels of essential minerals calcium, iron, magnesium, phosphorus and potassium. Gasagase payasa or poppy seeds kheer is often prepared to get rid off mouth ulcer, sleeplessness and constipation.

Gasagase payasa recipe

Preparation time: 5 min
Cooking time: 20 min
Serves: 3 cups

Ingredients: (measuring cup used = 240ml)

  1. 3 tbsp gasagase or poppy seeds or khus khus
  2. 2 tsp rice
  3. 1/2 cup jaggery
  4. 1/2 cup grated coconut
  5. 2 cup milk
  6. 1 cup water (includes the water used for grinding)
  7. One cardamom

Instructions for making gasagase payasa or poppy seeds kheer:

  1. Take gasagase (poppy seeds) and rice in frying pan.poppy seeds and rice for gasagase payasa or kheer
  2. Dry roast them under medium flame until rice turns milky white in color.dry roasting poppy seeds and rice for gasagase payasa or kheer
  3. Wait until roasted poppy seeds and rice are cool. Then dry grind it using a mixer grinder.dry grinding poppy seeds and rice for gasagase payasa or kheer
  4. Next add in grated coconut and cardamom. Grind until smooth paste by using required water.grinding coconut, poppy seeds and rice for gasagase payasa or kheer
  5. Transfer the ground paste into a container. Add in milk, jaggery and remaining water.milk and jaggery for gasagase payasa or kheer
