How to clean oil bottle | How to clean sticky oil can

Learn how to clean oil bottle or oil can at home with step by step pictures and a video. This is an easy way to clean oil bottle or oil can without using any fancy ingredients. You can clean the old, sticky oil using very minimum ingredients which are normally available in the kitchen. I have used hot water, dish wash liquid (or washing powder), vinegar and cooking soda. This is a proven method to clean oil bottle or oil containers.
If the oil stains are pretty old, then use this method. This will definitely help you to get rid of sticky oil from your oil can. But if you are cleaning the oil bottle regularly, just rub some flour all over the oil can and then wash.

Serves: 3 oil cans
Ingredients: (measuring cup used = 240ml)
- 2 - 3 oil bottles
- 2 tsp dishwash liquid or 2 tbsp washing powder
- 1/4 cup vinegar or 2 large lemons
- 1 tsp cooking soda
- Hot water as required
Instructions for cleaning oil bottle:
- Wipe out the excess oil from the oil bottle using a tissue paper or old news paper.
- Take hot water in a tub or wide container. Add in 2 tsp of dish wash liquid (or washing powder)
- Add in 1/4 cup vinegar.
- Next add in 1 tsp cooking soda. Give a good mix.
- Soak oil bottles and lids in this hot water for about 15 minutes.
- Brush the edges using detergent soap (or dish wash liquid) and a brush.
- Change the water. Fill it again with hot water.
- Soft scrub all the bottles and lids using dish wash liquid. Rinse it well.
- Keep it open for drying and is done.
Below are some important points to be noted:
- You can replace dish wash liquid with washing powder.
- Use lemon juice from 2 lemons if you don't have vinegar.
- No need to use boiling hot water.
- Use a soft scrubber in the last step to avoid scratches.
