Sprouts are tasty and healthy but like any other raw food, safety precautions should be taken while making and using them. Use clean drinking water to rinse, rinse before soaking, after soaking and before using the sprouts. Also follow the instructions carefully.

How to make sprouts at home

Instructions for making sprouts at home:

  1. Rinse the green gram well using clean water. Soak it for 5 - 6 hours. I generally soak it from morning to evening.Soaking the green gram to make sprouts

  3. Now take a clean, damp muslin cloth or kitchen cloth. Pour the soaked green gram over the cloth.cloth to make green gram sprouts

  5. Over that keep a heavy object like a stone or a mortar of the mortar-pestle. This is to create pressure, which helps in good sprouting. And keep it in room temperature for 12 - 24 hours. Time depends on the length of the sprouts required.place a heavy object over the green gram to make sprouts
  6. I generally keep it for 12 - 14 hours. The sprouting time might vary depending on the weather conditions. Use the sprouts in salads or curries or gravies.making green gram sprouts at home
  7. Now lets make a quick salad. Grate one cucumber and one carrot. Finely chop one big tomato. Take little pepper powder, little salt and little lemon juice.making green gram sprouts salad
