Masala majjige or Masale majjige translates to spicy buttermilk. It is a refreshing summer drink. It also aids in digestion. It is made with plain yogurt, green chili, coriander leaves and ginger. You can also add crushed pepper or garlic depending on your taste. People will also add tempering or finely chopped onions while preparing spicy buttermilk.

Spicy butter milk or masale majjige is distributed along with kosambari and bellada panaka on Ramanavami, a hindu festival.

Masala majjige or masale majjige recipe

Ingredients: (measuring cup used = 250ml)

  1. 1 cup thick curd / yoghurt
  2. 2 cup water
  3. 1/2 tsp chopped green chili
  4. 1/2 tsp chopped ginger
  5. 1 tsp chopped coriander leaves
  6. Salt as per your taste.

Instructions for making masala majjige or masale majjige

  1. Chop green chili, ginger and corinder leaves and crush them coarsely.spices for spicy buttermilk or masala majjige
  2. Put curd / yoghurt, water, salt and crushed spices in a vessel. Either churn it or mix them well by pouring from one vessel to another. Filter it if you would like to, I dont.making masala majjige or spicy buttermilk
