Bellada Panaka translates to jaggery juice in Kannada language. In Telugu language they call it as Panakam. This Bellada panaka is usually prepared and served with kosambari on Sri Rama Navami a Hindu festival, celebrating the birth of Lord Rama. Bellada Panaka is a juice prepared using jaggery and pepper as the main ingredients and in addition to this either ginger or tamarind or lemon is used. I have explained two types of panaka here. There could be many more.

Jaggery is a rich source of iron and it has lots of health benefits, it helps in digestion. Recipe is very simple and you can prepare it in no time.

Bellada panaka recipe

Preparation time: 5 min
Cooking time: 0 min
Serves: 1

Ingredients required (Recipe 1): (measuring cup used = 120ml)

  1. 1.5 cups water
  2. 1/2 tsp crushed ginger
  3. 2-3 tsp powdered jaggery
  4. 2 pepper crushed
  5. 1 tsp lemon juice (optional)
  6. A pinch of cardamom powder (optional)

Ingredients required (Recipe 2): (measuring cup used = 120ml)

  1. 1.5 cups water
  2. 2-3 tsp powdered jaggery
  3. 2 pepper crushed
  4. 1 marble sized tamarind
  5. A small pinch of salt (optional)

Instructions for making bellada panaka (Recipe1):

  1. Take 1.5 cups (180ml) of water and add ginger, jaggery, pepper, lemon juice and cardamom powder. Mix well, after 10 minutes strain it and serve it. ginger and pepper for ram navami panaka

Instructions for making bellada panaka (Recipe2):

  1. Soak tamarind and take the extract. Take 1.5 cups (180ml) of water and add tamarind extract, jaggery, pepper, and salt. Mix well, after 10 minutes strain it and serve it. tamarind and pepper for ram navami panaka
