Tempered masala majjige or oggarane masale majjige recipe with step by step pictures. This is a tempered masala majjige or masale majjige. This spicy Buttermilk or Masale majjige is made with plain yogurt, pepper, coriander leaves, curry leaves, asafoetida and ginger.

Spicy butter milk or masale majjige is distributed along with kosambari and bellada panaka on Ramanavami, a hindu festival.

Masala majjige or masale majjige recipe

Preparation time: 10 min
Cooking time: 2 min
Serves: 3

Ingredients: (measuring cup used = 240ml)

  1. 1 cup thick curd or plain yoghurt
  2. 2 cup water
  3. 1/2 tsp crushed pepper or green chili
  4. 1/2 tsp chopped ginger
  5. 1 tsp chopped coriander leaves
  6. 1/2 tsp chopped curry leaves
  7. A big pinch of asafoetida
  8. 1 tsp oil
  9. 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
  10. 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
  11. Salt as per your taste.

Instructions for making masala majjige or masale majjige:

  1. Mix in curd (plain yoghurt), water and salt. Whisk or mix it well and prepare buttermilk. You can also use 3 cups of buttermilk prepared in traditional way.buttermilk for spicy buttermilk or masala majjige
  2. Crush the pepper. Finely chop the ginger, curry leaves and corinder leaves.spices for spicy buttermilk or masala majjige
  3. Now prepare tempering using 1 tsp of oil, mustard seeds, cumin seeds, asafoetida, crushed pepper, chopped ginger, curry leaves and coriander leaves. Add this tempering to the buttermilk and mix well.tempering for spicy buttermilk or masala majjige
