Avarekalu usli or avarekalu palya recipe explained with step by step pictures and a video. Avarekalu usli or palya is very tasty recipe and it can be served with chapati or rice or as it is like evening snacks. Avarekalu, onion and fresh ground masala are the main ingredients for this avarekalu usli or avarekayi palya.

Avarekalu usli recipe

Preparation time: 30 min
Cooking time: 15 min
Serves: 2

Ingredients: (measuring cup used = 240ml)

  1. 1 cup avarekalu or hyacinth beans or field beans
  2. 1 tbsp oil
  3. 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
  4. 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
  5. 1/2 red chilli broken
  6. 4 - 5 curry leaves
  7. 1 onion chopped
  8. A big pinch of turmeric powder
  9. A big pinch of hing or asafoetida
  10. 1 tsp lemon juice (optional)
  11. Salt as per your taste

Ingredients for grinding: (measuring cup used = 240ml)

  1. 1/4 - 1/2 cup grated coconut
  2. 2 - 3 green chillies
  3. 1cm length ginger
  4. 2 tbsp finely chopped coriander leaves

Instructions for making avarekalu usli:

  1. Cook avarekalu until soft using a pressure cooker. Add in salt and required water while cooking and cook by making 3 - 4 whistles. Once they are cooked drain the excess water and keep it ready.cooking avarekalu for avarekalu usli or avrekalu palya
  2. Take coconut, ginger and green chillies in a mixie jar.coconut, ginger and green chilli for avarekalu usli or avrekalu palya
  3. Also add in some coriander leaves. Grind everything together into paste by adding required water.coriander leaves for avarekalu usli or avrekalu palya
  4. Heat a tbsp of oil in a frying pan and prepare tempering using mustard seeds, cumin seeds, red chilli and curry leaves.tempering for avarekalu usli or avrekalu palya
  5. Add in chopped onion, turmeric powder and asafoetida. Fry until onions are soft.onion, turmeric and asafoetida for avarekalu usli or avrekalu palya
  6. Next add in cooked avarekalu or avrekalu.cooked avarekalu for avarekalu usli or avrekalu palya
  7. Also add in salt and mix well. Adjust the salt as per your taste.salt for avarekalu usli or avrekalu palya
  8. Add in ground masala. Give a good mix and cook it for a minute.masala for avarekalu usli or avrekalu palya
  9. Once done switch off the stove. Optionally you can also add lemon juice. Serve it with rice or chapati or as an evening snacks.avarekalu usli or avrekalu palya
