You can serve these instant soft idlis with coconut chutney or sambar.

This is a no-grinding idli recipe. So if you are a bachelor or busy working mother, then this is a perfect recipe for you. No need to soak and no need to grind, just mix the ingredients, ferment and make the idlies.

Instant sabbakki idli or sabudana idli

Preparation time: 15 min
Cooking time: 15 min
Serves: 12 idlis

Ingredients: (measuring cup used = 240ml)

  1. 1/2 cup sabbakki or sago pearls
  2. 1 cup curd (slightly sour)
  3. 1/2 cup idli rava
  4. Salt as per your taste

Ingredients: (measuring cup used = 240ml)

  1. 2 tbsp grated coconut
  2. Some coriander leaves
  3. 2 tsp oil
  4. 1/2 tsp mustard
  5. 2 tbsp cashews
  6. Chopped green chilli (optional)
  7. Chopped curry leaves

Instructions for making instant sabbakki idli or sabudana idli:

  1. Take sabbakki or sago pearls in a container. I have used small variety but you can use big variety too.sago pearls for instant sabbakki idli or sabudana idli
  2. Add in idli rava or rice rava.idli rava for instant sabbakki idli or sabudana idli
  3. Next add in 1 cup of curd and give a good mix.curd for instant sabbakki idli or sabudana idli
  4. Add in required water and prepare a thick batter. Ferment the batter for 7 - 8 hours.batter for instant sabbakki idli or sabudana idli
  5. Next day morning, add in salt and mix it well. If you wish you can prepare plain idlis using this batter.salt for instant sabbakki idli or sabudana idli
  6. Add in grated coconut and chopped coriander leaves.coconut and coriander leaves for instant sabbakki idli or sabudana idli
  7. Prepare tempering using oil, mustard, cashews, green chillies and curry leaves.tempering for instant sabbakki idli or sabudana idli
  8. Pour it to the batter and give a quick mix..batter for instant sabbakki idli or sabudana idli
  9. Grease the idli plates with oil or ghee and drop the batter to the idli moulds.pour the batter in idli moulds for instant sabbakki idli or sabudana idli
  10. Steam it for 10 - 12 minutes. Place the idli plates only after the steam starts. Do not over cook the idlis. Wait for few minutes to take out the idlis. Serve it with spicy coconut chutney or idli sambar.cooking instant sabbakki idli or sabudana idli
