Are you bored with regular idlis? Then try these tasty and very soft pumpkin idlis. Pumpkin sweet and spicy idli recipe explained with step by step pictures and a quick video. Pumpkin idli is prepared using grated pumpkin and idli rava (rice rava). The pumpkin idlis are instant idlis as no fermentation is required.
For sweet version, grated pumpkin, jaggery, coconut and idli rava are mixed well and steamed like any other idlies. For spicy version, grated pumpkin, red chili, coconut, ginger, coriander leaves and idli rava are mixed well and steamed like any other idlies.
Pumpkin sweet idli is an age-old recipe and the original recipe makes use of home made rice rava. But now the job is easy because we have everything readily available at shops. This pumpkin sweet idlis are prepared during first day of deepavali or diwali festival (on naraka chathurdashi) in Kundapura and Malnad region of Karnataka.
