Southekayi sasive or southekai hasi gojju recipe explained with step by step pictures and a video. Cucumber raita is a very easy and tasty side dish for rice or chapathi. It can be prepared in just 5 minutes. 2 types of side dish recipes using cucumber are explained here.

As I have mentioned in my earlier posts, sasive and thambli are curd or yoghurt based gravy recipes. Sasive is a small side dish in a multi coarse meal. Sasive is generally prepared by grinding coconut, chilli and mustard.

Southekayi sasive recipe

Preparation time: 5 min
Cooking time: 5 min
Serves: 2

Ingredients for type 1: (measuring cup used = 240ml)

  1. 1 medium sized cucumber
  2. 2 red chillies
  3. 1/2 cup grated coconut
  4. 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
  5. 1 tsp salt or as per your taste.

Ingredients for type 2: (measuring cup used = 240ml)

  1. 1 medium sized cucumber
  2. 1 - 2 green chillies
  3. 1/2 cup grated coconut
  4. 1/4 tsp mustard seeds
  5. 1/4 cup curd
  6. 1 tsp salt or as per your taste.

Ingredients for tempering: (measuring cup used = 240ml)

  1. 1/2 red chili
  2. 2 tsp cooking oil
  3. 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
  4. few curry leaves

Instructions for making southekayi sasive:

  1. Cut the cucumber and remove the bitterness if any. Refer to the image or videdo.removing the bitterness of cucumber for southekayi hasi gojju or southekai sasive
  2. Finely chop the cucumber. Refer the video. Optionally you can peel the cucumber.chopping cucumber for southekayi hasi gojju or southekai sasive
  3. You can also grate it using a large holed grater.grating cucumber for southekayi hasi gojju or southekai sasive
  4. Now for type 1, take grated coconut, red chili and mustard seeds in a mixie jar. Grind it into a fine paste by adding required water.grinding ingredients for southekayi hasi gojju or southekai sasive
  5. Add in grated cucumber and grind it for a while.grinding ingredients for southekayi hasi gojju or southekai sasive
  6. Transfer it into a bowl.ground paste for southekayi hasi gojju or southekai sasive
  7. Add in salt as per your taste.ground paste for southekayi hasi gojju or southekai sasive
  8. Temper it with oil, mustard seeds, curry leaves, urad dal and red chili. tempering southekayi hasi gojju or southekai sasive
  9. Now for type 2, take grated coconut, green chili and mustard seeds in a mixie jar. Grind it into a fine paste by adding required water.grinding ingredients for southekayi hasi gojju or southekai sasive
  10. Add in grated cucumber, curd and salt. Grind it for a while.grinding ingredients for southekayi hasi gojju or southekai sasive
  11. Transfer it into a bowl.ground paste for southekayi hasi gojju or southekai sasive
