Shenga hindi or north Karnataka style peanut chutney powder recipe explained with step by step pictures and a video. This is a very popular chutney powder or chutney pudi recipe and is generally served along with jowar roti. This shenga hindi or peanut chutney powder is prepared using peanut, red chili, curry leaves, garlic, cumin seeds, sugar and salt.

This is a north Karnataka style peanut or groundnut chutney powder. But this chutney powder or chutney pudi is popular and familiar by name shenga hindi. You can find many more north Karnataka recipes on this website.

Preparing home made chuteny pudi or powder is very easy and is a life saver too!! Shenga or peanuts are very tasty. I love to eat peanuts and I add them in different recipes. Peanuts are high in energy and rich in nutrients. But it is always safe to eat in moderation. There is one more south Karnataka style peanut chutney powder. I will share that recipe also soon.

Shenga hindi or peanut chutney powder recipe

Preparation time: 10 minutes
Cooking time: 15 min
Serves: 1/2 cup

Ingredients: (measuring cup used = 240ml)

  1. 1/2 cup peanut or shenga or kadlekai
  2. 1 - 2 tsp red chili powder (adjust as per your spice level)
  3. 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
  4. 4 - 5 curry leaves (optional)
  5. 4 - 5 cloves of garlic
  6. 1/2 tsp sugar
  7. Salt as per your taste

Instructions for making shenga hindi or peanut chutney powder:

  1. Take a frying pan and heat it. Add in peanuts and start roasting them under medium flame.roasting peanuts for shenga hindi or peanut chutney powder
  2. Roast until brown and crispy. You can taste test one. Please note, roasting peanuts properly is very important. Once done switch off the stove.roasted peanuts for shenga hindi or peanut chutney powder
  3. Now gather roasted peanuts, cumin seeds, curry leaves and peeled garlic in a plate.roasting red chili for shenga hindi or peanut chutney powder
  4. Once the roasted peanuts are cool, transfer all the above ingredients into a mixer grinder.ingredients in mixer grinder for shenga hindi or peanut chutney powder
  5. Dry grind it using pulse mode and make it a coarse powder.grinding shenga hindi or peanut chutney powder
  6. Add in salt, sugar and red chili powder. All the three ingredients can be adjusted as per your taste.salt and sugar for shenga hindi or peanut chutney powder
  7. Grind it again for a while.ground shenga hindi or peanut chutney powder
  8. Transfer it into a plate. Once it is cool, store it in an air tight container. Serve it with roti or chapathi.shenga hindi or peanut chutney powder
