Congress kadelkai or Karnataka style spicy roasted peanuts recipe explained with step by step pictures and a video. Congress kadlekai or kadle beeja is a very popular and tasty snacks from Karnataka. Preparing congress kadlekai at home is very easy. This is a healthy and mouth watering spicy snacks. Best served with a cup of tea. Preparing these spicy peanuts is very easy but you need to have good patience while roasting the peanuts. Kadle kai or peanuts should be roasted under medium flame without burning them.

Congress kadlekai recipe

Preparation time: 30 min
Cooking time: 10 min
Serves: 1 cup

Ingredients: (measuring cup used = 240ml)

  1. 1 cup peanuts or ground nuts or kadlekai or shenga
  2. 1 tsp oil
  3. 1/4 tsp red chili powder (adjust as per your spice level)
  4. 1/4 tsp pepper powder (adjust as per your spice level)
  5. 1/4 tsp amchur powder (optional)
  6. 2 big pinch of turmeric powder
  7. 2 big pinch of hing or asafoetida
  8. 7 - 8 curry leaves
  9. Salt as per your taste

Instructions for making congress kadlekai :

  1. In a thick bottomed pan roast the peanuts until slightly brown under low medium flame. Peanuts will also start crackling. Take care not to burn the peanuts.roasting peanuts for congress kadlekai or kadle beeja
  2. Wait until roasted peanuts are cool. Rub, deskin and halve the peanuts.deskinning the peanuts for congress kadlekai or kadle beeja
  3. After that separate the peels and deskinned peanuts. I use a big wide plate and toss them.deskinning the peanuts for congress kadlekai or kadle beeja
  4. Now take a tsp of oil in a frying pan and heat it. Add in curry leaes and fry until crisp.oil and curry leaves for congress kadlekai or kadle beeja
  5. Reduce the flame and add in all the spice powders like chili powder, pepper powder, asafoetida, amchur powder and turmeric powder. Give a quick stir.spices for congress kadlekai or kadle beeja
  6. Immediately add in deskinned peanutsdeskinned peanuts for congress kadlekai or kadle beeja
  7. Mix well for a minute under very low flame and switch off the stove.mixing peanuts for congress kadlekai or kadle beeja
  8. Add in salt and mix well. Keep it aside.salt for congress kadlekai or kadle beeja
  9. Once it is warm, powder the curry leaves and mix well using hands. Doing so will help in blending the curry leaves well with the peanuts.mixing curry leaves for congress kadlekai or kadle beeja
