Doddapathre onion chutney is the tastiest chutney recipe prepared using doddapathre leaves, onion, coconut and rasam powder. This is a must try tasty and healthy chutney, which goes very well with everything. I learnt this recipe from my dearest Saroja aunty who lives in Mysore. Do try this chutney, its yummy and I am sure you all will love it!!

Doddapathre onion chutney

Preparation time: 10 min
Cooking time: 15 min
Serves: 2

Ingredients: (measuring cup used = 120ml)

  1. 15-20 doddapathre leaves / Indian borage leaves
  2. 1 big onion (1/2 for grinding and 1/2 for frying)
  3. small marble sized tamarind
  4. 1 cup grated coconut
  5. 1 tsp sambar powder / rasam powder / (1/2 tsp red chili + 1/2 tsp coriander + 1/4 tsp cumin)powder
  6. 3 tsp cooking oil
  7. Salt as per your taste.

Instructions for making doddapathre onion chutney:

  1. Wash and pat dry doddapathre leaves. Heat a frying pan, add 1 tsp of oil and fry the leaves till they are soft. Grind fried leaves, grated coconut, half portion of chopped onions, tamarind and rasam powder adding little water.frying and grinding for doddapatre and onion chutney
  2. After grinding, heat a frying pan, add 2 tsp of oil and fry the remaining half portion of chopped onions.onion for doddapatre and onion chutney
  3. When the onions turn translucent, add ground paste, salt and water. When it starts boiling switch off the stove. Serve this mouth watering chutney and ghee with rice, chapathi, dosa or idli. cooking doddapatre and onion chutney
