Ghee roast or thuppa dose recipe explained with step by step pictures and a video. This ghee roast dosa is prepared using idli rice, urad dal, methi seeds and poha. This dosa turns very crispy and tasty. You can serve this thuppada dose with coconut chutney or sambar.

Ghee roast dosa recipe

Preparation time: 13 hours
Cooking time: 30 min
Serves: 2

Ingredients: (measuring cup used = 240ml)

  1. 1 cup idli rice
  2. 1/4 cup urad dal
  3. 1/2 tsp methi seeds
  4. 1/2 cup beaten rice or avalakki or poha
  5. Ghee or oil for cooking
  6. Salt as per your taste

Instructions for making ghee roast:

  1. Soak the rice for 4 hours.rice for ghee roast or thuppa dose
  2. Soak urad dal and methi seeds for 4 hours.dal for ghee roast or thuppa dose
  3. Soak the poha or avalakki for 10 minutes.poha for ghee roast or thuppa dose
  4. After soaking, drain the water and grind the dal using a mixer grinder by adding required water.grinding dal for ghee roast or thuppa dose
  5. Add in rinsed poha and grind it again.soaked poha for ghee roast or thuppa dose
  6. Transfer it into a container.batter for ghee roast or thuppa dose
  7. Next grind the rice into a fine batter. grinding rice for ghee roast or thuppa dose
  8. Transfer it into the same container.batter for ghee roast or thuppa dose
  9. Give good mix using hands.batter for ghee roast or thuppa dose
  10. Close the lid and rest it for 8 - 10 hours in a warm place for fermentation.fermenting batter for ghee roast or thuppa dose
  11. After fermentation, open the lid and add in required salt (around 1 tsp). Give a quick mix.salt for ghee roast or thuppa dose
  12. Heat the dosa pan. Pour a laddle full of batter and spread it in a circular way.making ghee roast or thuppa dose
  13. Close the lid for 5 - 10 seconds and cook the dose.close the lid and cook ghee roast or thuppa dose
  14. Open the lid, drizzle ghee.oil for ghee roast or thuppa dose
  15. Take out the dose and serve it with coconut chutney or sambar.cook ghee roast or thuppa dose
