Kayi sasive gojjina chitranna recipe explained with step by step pictures and a video. This is very tasty sweet, spicy and sour chitranna or rice recipe. Kayi sasive masala is prepared by grinding coconut, mustard and red chillies. A big fat tempering with oil, peanuts, mustard, dals, turmeric, asafoetida and curry leaves also used.

Gojjina chitranna recipe

Preparation time: 10 min
Cooking time: 20 min
Serves: 3

Ingredients: (measuring cup used = 240ml)

  1. 1 cup rice (I have used sona masuri)
  2. 1 cup grated coconut
  3. 2 - 4 red chilli
  4. 1/4 tsp mustard seeds
  5. 1 small lemon sized jaggery
  6. 1 gooseberry sized tamarind
  7. Salt as per your taste

Ingredients for tempering:

  1. 1 red chilli
  2. 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
  3. 2 tbsp ground nut
  4. 1 tsp urad dal
  5. 1 tsp chana dal or gram dal
  6. 4 - 6 curry leaves
  7. 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
  8. 2 tbsp cooking oil (coconut oil preferred)

Instructions for making kayi sasive gojjina chitranna:

  1. Cook the rice and keep it aside.
  2. Take coconut, red chilli and mustard seeds in a mixer grinder jar.grind masala for kayi sasive gojjina chitranna recipe
  3. Use required water and grind it into a fine paste. Set it aside.grind masala for kayi sasive gojjina chitranna recipe
  4. In a wide frying pan heat oil and fry the peanuts.grind masala for kayi sasive gojjina chitranna recipe
  5. Once done, add in mustrad seeds, urad dal, gram dal (chana dal) and red chillies. Fry until mustards splutter and dals turn brown.grind masala for kayi sasive gojjina chitranna recipe
