Hurulikalu dose or horse gram dosa recipe is explained using step by step pictures and a video. Hurulikalu or hurali kaalu dose is a very healthy, tasty and is a protein rich recipe. Huruli kaalu dosa is prepared using rice, horse gram, methi seeds and poha.. Horse gram dosa can be served with coconut chutney or sambar.

Hurali kaalu or horse gram has numerous health benefits. It is protein rich and is having good amount of fiber. Horse gram is helpful in maintaining blood sugar level. This is a fermented dosa recipe. I have not used urad dal here and if you wish you can addd 2 tbsp urad dal.

Hurali kaalu dosa recipe

Preparation time: 14 hours
Cooking time: 30 min
Serves: 3

Ingredients: (measuring cup used = 240ml)

  1. 1 cup dosa rice (or any raw rice)
  2. 1/4 cup horse gram or huruli kaalu
  3. 1/2 tsp fenugreek seeds
  4. 1/4 cup beaten rice or avalakki
  5. Ghee or oil for cooking
  6. Salt as per your taste

Instructions for making hurali kaalu dosa:

  1. Take rice, horse gram and fenugreek seeds in a container.rice and horse gram for hurali kalu dose or huruli kaalu dosa
  2. Add in poha or beaten rice or poha. You can soak this later as well.poha for hurali kalu dose or huruli kaalu dosa
  3. Rinse it well and soak it for 4 - 5 hours.soaking rice and horse gram for hurali kalu dose or huruli kaalu dosa
  4. After soaking, drain the water and transfer it into a mixie jar. Grind it until smooth using a mixer grinder by adding required water.soaked rice and horse gram for hurali kalu dose or huruli kaalu dosa
  5. Transfer the batter into a container.batter for hurali kalu dose or huruli kaalu dosa
  6. Close the lid and rest it for 8 - 10 hours in a warm place for fermentation.fermenting batter for hurali kalu dose or huruli kaalu dosa
  7. After fermentation, open the lid and add in required salt (around 1 tsp). Give a quick mix.salt for hurali kalu dose or huruli kaalu dosa
  8. The batter shall have regular urad dal dosa batter consistency. Now heat the dosa pan. You can use any dosa pan. Now pour a laddle full of batter and spread it in a circular way. Close the lid for 5 - 10 seconds and cook the dose.making hurali kalu dose or huruli kaalu dosa
  9. Open the lid, drizzle ghee or oil. I prefer ghee for this dose.ghee for hurali kalu dose or huruli kaalu dosa
