5 minute tomato saaru or quick rasam recipe

Immunity boosting rasam recipe explained using step by step pictures and a video. This is a very tasty, healthy and simple rasam recipe. No dal and no rasam powder is used in this rasam or saaru. This rasam or simple saru increases or boosts your immunity. You can either drink or have this rasam with rice.

This rasam or saaru has many ingredients which are helpful in boosting immunity. I have not used any rasam powder in this recipe, instead I have prepared fresh ground masala using coriander seeds, cumin seeds, black pepper, garlic, ginger, red chilli and curry leaves.

This tomato saaru or rasam is not only healthy but very tasty also. You can prepare this when you are sick or to just increase the immunity. You can also prepare this on regular days. By the way..I have not used dal also in this recipe, so obviously it is simple and quick.

Immunity boosting rasam recipe

Preparation time: 5 min
Cooking time: 10 min
Serves: 4

Ingredients: (measuring cup used = 240ml)

  1. 2 medium sized tomato
  2. 1 gooseberry sized jaggery
  3. 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
  4. 1 tbsp coriander leaves
  5. Salt as per your taste
  6. 1/2 - 1 Lemon

Ingredients for grinding: (measuring cup used = 240ml)

  1. 1 tsp coriander seeds
  2. 1 tsp cumin seeds
  3. 1 tsp black pepper
  4. 2 red chillies
  5. 10 cloves of garlic
  6. 1 inch length ginger
  7. Few curry leaves

Ingredients for tempering: (measuring cup used = 240ml)

  1. 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
  2. 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
  3. 4-5 curry leaves
  4. 2 tsp cooking oil / ghee

Instructions for making immunity boosting rasam:

  1. Take all the ingredients listed under "for grinding" in a mixie jar. Make a coarse powder without adding any water.spices for immunity boosting rasam or quick simple saaru
  2. Transfer it into a bowl.ground masala for immunity boosting rasam or quick simple saaru
  3. Next in the same mixie jar, take roughly chopped tomato. Grind them into a coarse paste.tomato for immunity boosting rasam or quick simple saaru
  4. Transfer the tomato into a container or pan. Keep it for boiling.ground tomato for immunity boosting rasam or quick simple saaru
  5. Add in salt and turmeric powder. Give a quick mix and bring it to boil.salt and turmeric for immunity boosting rasam or quick simple saaru
  6. Close the lid and allow it to cook for 2 minutes.cooking tomato for immunity boosting rasam or quick simple saaru
  7. Add in required water. I have added 1.5 cup of water.water for immunity boosting rasam or quick simple saaru
  8. Add in jaggery. Also adjust the salt as per your taste.jaggery for immunity boosting rasam or quick simple saaru
  9. Add in ground masala.masala for immunity boosting rasam or quick simple saaru
  10. Bring it to rolling boil and add in coriander leaves.boiling immunity boosting rasam or quick simple saaru
  11. Switch off the stove and add in lemon juice.lemon juice for immunity boosting rasam or quick simple saaru
  12. Temper it with oil, mustard, cumin and curry leaves. Serve it with hot steaming rice or drink as it is.tempering immunity boosting rasam or quick simple saaru
